If you were at the 4 Scott gig earlier in the year (I was) then this CD needs no explanation. If you you weren't; try to imagine a gig featuring Pulp, Stereophonics, Richard Ashcroft, Badly Drawn Boy, Embrace, McAlmont & Butler and many others playing mainly acoustic sets to an audience of about 700. Sound good? So does the album. The slowed down acustic Stereophonics tracks show a side of them you don't see very often, Richard Ashcroft does a great live version of Bitter Sweet Symphony for a change and Pulp are awesome. The McAlmont and Butler track is beautiful and Placebo do a fantastic version of Haemoglobin. The tracks flow together nicely and the whole thing seems to work. A bit like the gig at which these tracks were recorded. Awesome. To be honest once you've read the track listing and I've confirmed that the live tracks aren't duds you should have nothing stopping you buying this album!! Downsides? They could have done with more tracks from the night but hey... By the way the track listing is: Live tracks: Bonus tracks:

bitter sweet compilation.,

when you see 6 hours of some of the finest british bands in a small club, you know you're in for a special evening. which is was. sadly you also know that despite how good it was, they could never really put it all on one album. with only one or two songs are chosen from each artist, which is a shame when most are not the highlight of their performance that night. the extra tracks are non-essestial when they could have put more on from the gig. fans at the gig should buy it but it could have been so much more.

Having attended the Scala gig where most of the tracks come from, it seems superfluous to add the tracks after Pulp's anthemic set closer, Sunrise. Though this is nit picking I suppose, and having Scott's voice on KLF's track I suppose is indeed justified - AND ancient. The Stereophonics acoustic numbers were pretty good, Pulp were superb, Richard ashcroft "took back" Bittersweet Symphony by not having the Stones strings sample - and its better for it! Placebo were a bit dull, though it seems to work better on record than it did live. Teenage Fanclub were jolly and on first (so they could set about the bar in earnest!). Luke Haines completely baffled most of 'da kidz', but hey, I liked him! Badly Drawn Boy managed to not get too involved in arguing with the crowd and his songs are devastingly gorgeous when he gets round to singing the whole thing! McAlmont and Butler soared, and seemed ideally suited to the venue and the occasion. The night's best band though were undoubtedly Embrace, who gave their all in their all too short set. One of the few bands that night who played like they really meant it. Class! Overall, a nice CD to remind me of the event - would have been better had they put out all the sets on a double CD though!
