Biography

Not everyone gets Mogwai, but that’s what makes them great. Theirs is a majestic, powerful sound where barely a word is spoken yet it is the antithesis of background music. Album and song titles bemuse, confuse and delight in equal measure and live, they are utterly unstoppable.

Rave Tapes is the eighth studio album by Mogwai and their second on Rock Action, the label they set up ... Read more in Amazon's Mogwai Store

4.0 out of 5 stars Just My Review..... 21 May 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
The three-song 4 Satin EP finds Mogwai refining their mesmerizing, understated style. The music is a little louder, which doesn't necessarily mean that it's more accessible. Throughout 4 Satin, the drums and guitars weave complex, intricate patterns which are primarily rhythmic, not melodic, and they slowly build to great washes of sound. Given the subtlety of their music, it's appropriate that 4 Satin isn't a great leap ahead, but rather a small, assured step forward demonstrating that Mogwai is developing into a uniquely fascinating band.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not essential 5 Aug 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
When you start listening to this EP you are greeted with electronic drums and a wonderful almost ambient piece of music, but the further into the EP you get it becomes a little more dissapointing. The second track is nice, and the third track, stereodee, is about 2 minutes of pretty cool music which just end up as about 15 minutes of mad distortion, some crazy organ and near the end is some japan-esque techno music. Altogether its not quite what you'd expect if you'd heard anything else by Mogwai. Although, this EP is worth buying if you feel starved of their music and you've bought everything else they have to offer, if just for the first two and a bit songs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Keyboards, guitars and white noise, what else do you need? 7 July 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Mogwai, never predictable to say the least. Superheroes of BMX is a keyboard brumbeat driven, almost hypnotic experience topped off with white noise, Now You're Taken is a bit long and gets repeatative but great none the less, Stereo Dee, typical Mogwai guitar strumming. Track four? Ten minutes of sheer noise, nothing more, nothing less. It could only come from Mogwai! On the whole, a good EP, but not as good as No Education - No Future, which has the excelent Xmas Steps!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent but not essential 28 April 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
4 Satin is another great release from Mogwai. "Superheroes of BMX" is one of the more rocking tracks they have put out, while "Now You're Taken" is possibly their most beautiful song. Aidan from Arab Strap contributes haunting words and the music is top notch. "Stereo D" is very unimpressive, though, eight minutes of lurching without any progress. The unlisted 11 minute closer is noisy but intriguing. In many ways, this is a good introduction to the many facets of Mogwai, although Young Team is still better for newcomers.

This is a very good album. I thought "My Father, My King" was a better E.P. but this is still worth having. Such a beautiful band.

3.0 out of 5 stars For Mogwai Fans Only 6 Dec 1999
By Anglophile - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I own the 3 track version of this EP. "Superheroes of BMX" and "Now You're Taken" are both very good tracks. Stereodee starts out nicely for the first three minutes but then turns into 10 minutes of noise which is in all honestly simply annoying. Unless you're very artsy, you won't appreciate it either. If you're just starting out with this band, Young Team and Come on Die Young are better choices as is their latest EP.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Tonnage 11 May 1999

Format:Audio CD
Meditation, musical scores for internal weather reports, the cacophony and calm of the perspective we can't finally shake, our subjectivity. In our skins and on our way. Landscape.
