From the Publisher

review
Kuehls "opens his book by relating how his father went from being unable to run even a half-mile to being able to finish a marathon in 3 hours, 58 minutes....The book covers the basics for the average runner, from nutrition to complete training programs." --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book!, 12 May 2004
I bought this book when I started training for my first marathon, London. Couldn't put the book down, it became my bible. Covers everything you need to know. Managed to complete the marathon in 3.56.16, and I certainly have this book to thank in part! Very easy to read and understand, with good, practical advice. Many thanks, Dave Kuehls!!

5.0 out of 5 stars It really works, 29 Mar 2000
By G. J. Cooke Esq (London, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I read this book as a complete novice to marathon running. The longest distance I ran was 5 miles max. This book has all the info you need, to do what the title of the book says. Follow Dave Kuehls advice and it really works. Four months after picking up this slim volume I completed the New York marathon in 3hrs 56.19.

4.0 out of 5 stars A basic but complete guide to marathon training, 1 May 1999
By A Customer
This is a short and easy read. It contains all the information you'll need to run your first marathon. It is geared to first timers with information on everything from what to eat, what to wear, and training schedules, but has good information for anyone who wants to run long distances. It was my bible for for four months and I used it to run my marathon in 3:58:40. I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking to run their first marathon.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just one extra tip
I found this book to be a useful guide, with some helpful tips for my first marathon, but to be honest I'd read a lot of the content on Runner's World forums beforehand too. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Foolproof amateurs' guide
The tone is a bit patronising, but this book works! I'm sporty but not a runner, and I followed the guide to the letter, finishing first marathon in 3:57.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful book but overpriced
This book is great for tips and advice and the training plans are simple to follow. The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is that I think it is overpriced. Read more
