Product Description

Product Description

Boozoo Bajou get better and better. It's now more than 17 years since the duo of Peter Heider and Florian Seyberth first put out a record, and 16 since their project began and they have just made what is without question the record of their career, and more than worthy addition to Apollo's illustrious catalogue to boot. ''4'' is, very simply, an astounding piece of work: packed with craft, sophistication, intrigue, mystery, seduction and most of all an absolute dedication to the pursuit of out-and-out beauty, it easily transcends basic categories and expectations and stands alone as a shining example of what 21st century music can and should sound like. It takes your breath away.

2.0 out of 5 stars soooo disapointed. Aproach with caution! 31 Mar 2014

Everything I have of Boozoo Bajou's is great, truly great.... except this!
You know how you go in phases with bands, playing their stuff over and over until one day you go off at a tangent by finding something else? Well, for me, it's been nothing but Boozoo Bajou for a very long time now, and was very excited to see a new album out while still in this phase. But this is NOTHING like the funky stuff I've come to know and love. I can't see this joining the 'BB' playlist at all. It's a vast departure and very downbeat and worst of all, I can't see it growing to the stature of all their previous work.
I am very sad today (maybe it's the downbeats!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning intensity 26 April 2014
Not particularly familiar with Boozoo Bajou's other work, but this is awesome. I'm guessing it is a little serious, melancholy and downbeat for some listeners, but i think it makes up for it with a stunning intensity to the groove that permuates each track. Beautiful attention to detail with the production and soundscapes. Really sounds amazing on a nice set of speakers, and I'm guessing on headphones too.

I strongly disagree with the review here and the ones from the US site that have given just 2 stars. Yep, it's a radical departure from the other three albums proper but I'm sure they'd have been slated if they'd made another Satta. They've gone into a much darker space with 4 this being reminiscent of early Warp releases from the likes of Autechre and The Black Dog. If you like Incanabula or Bytes by those two combos respectively, and even the latest from Boards of Canada I think you may well like this. I don't hand out 5 stars liberally like many seem to on Zon so 4 is very high.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect mid-ground to suspend time and space for me-time with a cognac and spliff 20 May 2014
By Ernest Tubb - Published on Amazon.com
Subgenre-jumping chameleons Boozoo Bajou had already checked reggae, dub, Cajun music, folk, jazz, and pop off their list, but with 4 they go deep into the heart of electronica, as in way deep. This dark and dubby album is almost obsidian as it echoes and drones with the coolest of tempos underneath, as names like Brian Eno, Basic Channel, and Trentemøller come to mind, although all the music is inspired and purposeful and nowhere near the vicinity of mimicry. Key track "Der Kran" is the entirely unique experience of taking a boat ride down a stream that runs into a cave as echoes and urdus offer a subterranean version of exotica, while "Your Weak Fire" is the kind of bottomless dub that the Rhythm & Sound crew specialize in, although the whispered vocals and wet, loose guitar riffs here are identifiably Boozoo. Highlight "Kodiak" is a song among soundscapes and brings a bit of jazz and spy music for a rare moment of levity, but if the album is single-minded and too close to a mood piece for returning fans, that's the price paid for something so thematically sound. Jon Hassell, Wackie's, Porter Ricks, and Burial fans will welcome such a rich collection of bottomless boom and draggy beats, especially when locked up in the house for the winter, but Boozoo newcomers who use this as their entry point will likely feel they've stumbled into the Fleetwood Mac or Zero 7 section of their record store if they explore the discography much further. Even if it's a one-off, 4 is a welcome anomaly from an unclassifiable duo who seem to give up nothing but.

2.0 out of 5 stars "4" Shame. 9 April 2014
By Starr - Published on Amazon.com
After the experimental, vocally-embellished "Grains," Boozoo Bajou returns with "4." Unlike their now classic, Lounge debut, "Satta," there is very little here along the lines of tropical or percussive soundscapes; Here, there is a quieter vibe in place a la Brian Eno's "On Land," but with even LESS adventure and flavor. However here, the focus is "On water."

If you have been hoping the past five years for a return to their roots via an upbeat affair, you are highly likely to be disappointed. "4" barely even moves and seems to drone on endlessly. If you have trouble sleeping, this disc will help you to do just that. Otherwise, stick with "Satta," "Dust My Broom" or "Grains" and pray that Boozoo Bajou returns to form one day and gives their fanbase what it has been hungering for. This one, sadly, was a complete waste of studio time. I'm sorry I forked out $15.00 for it on Release Day. :-(

2.0 out of 5 stars A complete disappointment 15 April 2014
By Zoo Testament - Published on Amazon.com
Grains was a genius album replete with slink and the kind of downtempo bliss missing in the wake of Kruder and Dorfmeister going their separate ways. It is one of the best albums of the past 10 years and represented a quantum leap beyond it's predecessor, the also essential Dust My Broom. So, six years later, I was expecting another leap into the future and instead I got... (yawn) ambient sleep soundtrack music that inspires nothing more than the desire to nod off or click on to something else. It is my hope that this talented duo just needed a quick pallet cleanser before getting back to making brilliant vibey groove music and that we don't have to wait six more years to hear it. Two stars at least for the expectation of better things to come and past brilliance.
