Book Description

Mar 2004 Women's Murder Club
Detective Lindsay Boxer and Assistant District Attorney Jill Bernhardt are enjoying a quiet afternoon in San Francisco when a townhouse across the street explodes in flames. A sinister note signed 'August Spies' is found at the scene of the disaster, and the body of an infant who was asleep in the house at the time of the explosion cannot be found. Soon a wave of violent incidents, all with links to political terrorism and involving the 'August Spies', sweeps through the city. An upcoming economic summit of the world's most powerful nations will surely be a target. And it's up to the Women's Murder Club to get to the bottom of the violence before it's too late.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another excellent title by Patterson 7 Mar 2005
Format:Paperback
A gripping story line mixed with a hint of sadness. Even after being a huge fan of detective Alex Cross, I have found the tales of the Women's Murder Club and Lyndsey Boxer just as captivating. I'm sure any Patterson fan will love this book too. Enjoy reading...

5.0 out of 5 stars 3rd Degree... 1st Class! 9 Mar 2004
Format:Hardcover
First and foremost, i would like to say that this book is great. Secondly, it was a really worth the wait. Thirdly, with hindsight, it was even great waiting for it!
Many people seem content to rubbish JP's short chapters, but these are what make his book's such a thrill to read. 3rd Degree is an ever changing, fast paced thriller and this is due to the effectiveness of short chapters... Don't you find it amazing that the simple turn of a page, can have you in Berkeley one second and in Susie's the next?
The story line was classic, a main character dies and there is love interest. Typical of most best sellers, right? But this one is different... but you should read it to find out for yourselves, you won't regret it!
This book, like all his others, was a great read... bring on the next one JP!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read. 14 July 2005
Format:Paperback
I enjoyed this book but I did feel that the plot to kill off one of the main characters was a bit weak and throughout the last book I felt that one of them would die eventually. I enjoyed the storyline about the violent relationship and felt that it made you feel a bit closer to the character and made her feel a bit more human. I read the whole book in about 4 hours although it is a book you could easily pick up and put down.
Being a big fan of James Patterson, I felt that it wasn't one of his best but still an enjoyable plot.

By Donald Mitchell HALL OF FAME TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Hardcover
For me, crime fiction has to have enough ring of truth that I can imagine the circumstances really happening. Otherwise, the book is simply a fantasy, and my pleasure depends on the symbolism, metaphors and issues explored. 3rd Degree didn't work well for me from either perspective.
If you have read and enjoyed 1st to Die and 2nd Chance, you should read this book because there are important developments for the four women in the Women's Murder Club. Otherwise, if you pick up the fourth book in the series when it comes out, you will find yourself a little lost.
The book opens with a bang when Homicide Detective Lindsay Boxer observes a home explode during her jog. There are more explosive events ahead as the book chronicles Lindsay's efforts (abetted by her women friends) to locate the terrorists behind a series of attacks on those who have gained at the expense of others and have upheld law and order. Because of the magnitude of the events, the whole antiterrorist forces of the United States become involved. Lindsay finds herself being attracted to one of them. At the same time, there's trouble in Jill's marriage.
The problems with the book come from the story's development of the terrorist theme. The terrorists just don't seem like real people. They are like cardboard drawings that haven't even been cut out of the cardboard so that they can stand two-dimensionally on their own. The way they work together and their motivations didn't ring true with me either.
Mr. Patterson and Mr. Gross also didn't seem to develop the four female characters more than the minimum to build the story and draw your interest in reading a fourth book in the series. These four women could have made for wonderful characters if the authors weren't so plot and action obsessed.
After you finish this book, think about whether your time is spent on the right priorities.

4.0 out of 5 stars 3rd Degree Burns 20 Feb 2004
By D. Newstead VINE VOICE
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Having just finished Big Bad Wolf its nice to see the 1st Wives Murder Club is back in full swing. This is as good if not better then the first 2 novels and enough shocks and twists to keep the reader wrapped up in the characters. As with most Patterson's I could not put this book down and the old cliche read in one sitting certainly applies. Unexpected shocks and all this book is another masterly thriller from the best in town.
