The CD contents is probably the only thing that makes this book worth having. The book does not go through in detail the concepts it talks about, merely briefly discusses them in a general sense, when it really should be going into detail on how it can be applied to Director and Lingo.

In terms of Source, there are some really nice files on there, but again without some sort of documentation those who are beginners will probably not get much out of it, which is a real shame because it covers all the elements most people who want to create 3d games for the web want to know how to acheive with Director.

This book could have been a real useful companion, instead your probably spending money to get the source.

A new world of possibilities with Director! 29 Dec. 2007
By Susan L. Meyer - Published on
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This book has really gotten me excited about using Director's 3D capabilities. For the most part it provides clear information and great examples plus code the reader can adapt to his own uses. It also suggests directions for further exploration. I personally have found it frustrating that the authors did not go into more detail on some of those suggestions as I have difficulty writing Director code, but that has motivated me to put more effort into learning it. Unfortunately, the completed examples of the game that the authors indicated would be posted on their web site are not there and it is difficult, if not impossible, to contact them. Also, Director seems to be stalled at this time although Adobe has made repeated promises to upgrade it so that it works better with Vista. Nonetheless, I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in 3D for use on the web.
