Book Description

Includes a professionally crafted audiobook. Look for the link inside!

Joey Papagopolis is your typical 10-year-old.

Like most boys that age, Joey has a pet chameleon named Larry and a mysterious Big Red Button that can transport the two of them through time and space to the far reaches of the planet...

Hey, wait a second, that's not typical at all! In fact, that's pretty amazing -- which is why you will want to follow along as Joey and Larry set off on their first Big Red Button adventure.

An absent-minded wish and an accidental pressing of the button land Joey and Larry smack in the middle of a conflict between a Native American tribe and some English settlers. Yikes!

Are their lives in danger? Can Joey resolve the conflict? Will Larry teach them all how to line dance? Does Larry even know how to line dance?

The answers to these questions and more await you in the fun and fantastic adventure of THE BIG RED BUTTON.

65+ illustrated pages (may vary by device).
Humorous illustrations by Anne Zimanski.

A wonderful and intriguing story book that combines snippets of trivia and infuses them into an entertaining and enjoyable plot that will satisfy most young readers and their creative imagination. The main character and his pet chameleon can be easily related, combined with the adventure that they embark upon, this is a book that will no doubt keep the young mind interested and occupied. The facts section towards the latter part of the book is a thoughtful touch too, as well as the occasions where the author weaves in hints of how to pronounce certain words. Finally make sure you also take advantage of the free audio version as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK 11 Nov. 2013
By Vickie Woodard - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book was full of action, little known historical facts and was over too soon for me.
But this is a children's book, so it's probably the right length for them.
The art work was amazing. Do chameleons really only have three toes on their front feet? What was going to come out of those seven suitcases next?
And just how DO you pronounce the name of that lake?
The author must have known every person who read the book would ask, because he provided a little gift to help us with that pronunciation: a free version of this in a slightly different style.
An audio book.
I don't know just how long this generosity lasts, but I'm very glad I got in on it. That lake has too many letters for me to pretend I'm pronouncing it correctly.
And trust me, this review would be glowing with or without the gift.
Just like the title says, this is a great book.
It's opens the door for you to discuss some bits of American history in depth: why did Roosevelt want to hide his use of the wheelchair; do you think Baby Ruth was really named after a little girl? (If it had been named after The Babe, he would've gotten a cut of the profits.)
And the lake. Yes, there were plenty of fish. But imagine what would have happened if the big one that got away from a soldier wound up on the other side's line. I don't want to be any more negative than that.
Children aren't born hating. Visit a day care and you'll see two, three and four year olds of all colors and from different neighborhoods hugging and being best of pals.
It's up to us parents to keep it that way.
Joey didn't know about the animosity between the soldiers and the tribe, so he expected them to get along. In the book, he got what he expected. Maybe if we keep presenting this type of picture to our children, it will change some small part of their future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intelligent storyline mixed with historical facts 5 Dec. 2014
By Majanka - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Globaloonies: The Big Red Button is the first book in a children’s book series about 10-year-old Joey with an average first name and a complicated to pronounce last name, who has a chameleon named Larry and one day finds a mysterious big Red Button which transports them through time and space. This is an amazing start to a series, that manages to combine teaching kids history and an engaging, enjoyable adventure that all kids will enjoy.

They end up in the adventure of a lifetime, in the middle of the conflict between Native Americans and the English settlers. Joey acts like any typical kid, with typical bravado, the weird habits all kids have, and a great dose of humor. It’s easy to relate with Joey and his pet chameleon, and to find oneself completely drawn into their adventure.

The writing is down to earth and exactly on the level kids need. The book offers an intelligent storyline, throws in some historical facts (without making it sound like a dull history book) and manages to craft an amazing story that will inspire kids and grown ups alike. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous too. Recommended to every kid who enjoys reading, and every parent or teacher looking for a great book to read with their kids. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

4.0 out of 5 stars Globaloonies 1 - my review 8 July 2014
By Ana - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A tender and enjoyable story about the adventures of a boy and his chameleon in search of a very important answer. A young boy who wanted to do or know something better than anyone.

I found it very interesting the additional chapter on the true facts.

I just hope that no other child remember to give bubble gum to a chameleon ...

I received an e-copy this book from the author's attachment to an LibraryThing giveaway that I won.
