Book Description

The Stonor Letters and Papers provides us with a wealth of otherwise unobtainable detail about the lives and careers of a late medieval gentry family. With a new introduction and annotation, this edition will be essential reading for scholars of late medieval England, and for anyone interested in the Wars of the Roses, or in medieval life generally.

I would recommend this book to anyone with the surname Betson, because there are several letters concerning a Betson, and it is difficult to find family history evidence from that long ago.

It would also be of interest to Richard lll enthusiasts, as it dates from that time.

Fascinating stuff!

I chose the 5 star rating for personal interest reasons as the papers show the earliest record yet of my family history. Also from reading these letters it is possible to see how the English language developed out of Latin and French, by the sound association of symbols (noises the letters of the alphabet make).
