Outstanding quality and excellent value for money. You get a 27" display -- which alone is a big deal -- plus a Thunderbolt Hub, with USB, Firewire and gigabit ethernet. On top of that there's a FaceTime HD camera built-in, and a 2.1 speaker system. If that's not enough, there's even a power line for your laptop, so you don't need a spare adapter for your desktop setup vs. your bag. Lastly, the screen has a built-in ambient light sensor so it adjusts itself accordingly, saving on power and (more importantly) reducing eye strain.

All connects to your computer with a single cable. Simply awesome.

Solid build, outstanding image quality, all up a highly recommended purchase. Getting a standalone monitor and all the extra hubs and converters would amount to the same, if not more money, and would just add an unnecessary clutter of cables.

I'm giving this 5 stars based on my very happy usage of the monitor since 2011. It's not only a terrific, big display which is fantastic for productivity (it's so wide, you get all the benefits of using two monitors while only powering one), but it's also a great docking station for a Macbook. This 'docking station' is simplicity itself - just two cables, one for power (to charge your laptop) and one Thunderbolt cable which sends video and audio to the display.

If you have a Macbook, and especially if you use it for work/business, this is one of the best things you could ever get for yourself. Obviously it has to be a relatively recent Macbook with a Thunderbolt port, but that's the only limitation - I've used this with both a Macbook Air and a Macbook Pro, with perfect results. Dock it with the two cables, and in a few seconds you're up and away and working on the giant screen. When you're done, pop your laptop out and it automatically sleeps until you open the lid. It really couldn't be simpler.

The display itself also provides a whole range of additional ports which your laptop can access when it's 'docked' - USB, Firewire, more Thunderbolt, Ethernet network. I have a network cable going into the back of mine, which allows my laptop to access the wired network; and I've got storage hard drives plus an iPod dock hooked up by USB. The convenience of all this is not just that you get additional ports, but that you don't have to keep plugging and unplugging your peripherals from the laptop every day. If you ever wanted to create a beautifully simple, organised desk then this makes it almost too easy to keep your desk clutter-free.

Other things: the sound quality is surprisingly good.

I own a 21.5" iMac and 13" MacBook Air and wanted a bigger screen for various reasons and I was torn between a new 27" iMac or Thunderbolt display. As there was around £700 price difference I decided on the latter.

Ordered the display on a Saturday afternoon and arrived the following Monday. Unpacking the unit you could see the attention to detail Apple gives even in the packing of the unit. Was up and running connected to my macBook Air in minutes. All I can say about the display is that it is excellent and the extra desktop space is a boon with a decent sound ( Not HI-Fi quality but none the less acceptable ). As a result I am selling my iMac because there is now no need for two computers also upgrade options in the future will be easier.

My only concern is when the thunderbolt cable is connected to the MacBook Air it is at right angles and could eventually split but the cable appears to be well constructed so only time will tell.

Gave it four stars as only had for just over a week and will need more time to asses it's durability over time.

Would I recommend this product and the answer is YES and if like me you have owned Macs for some time you will know what I mean.

I've NEVER been a fan of matte displays and to be honest have found them offensive with their dull, mediocre, lifeless visual appearance and to be honest the matte surface seems to blur the sharpness of pixels, plus self illuminate/glow from both light thrown out from a displays backlighting combined with external environmental light hitting it from the front and although this maybe to such a fractional degree, it however has an impact on overall quality and contrast ratio which is severely hampered...

Therefore having the 27" Thunderbolt Cinema Display with it's LED backlighting for whiter whites (sounds like a washing powder advert) and the attractive glossy screen for superior contrast ratio - is a godsend and worth purchasing despite any niggles, admittedly some of which may be addressed in the near future with firmware & device driver updates!

Understandably the Thunderbolt Cinema Display won't please everyone because a). some users may have to reposition the display if 'strong' external light is reflecting from it and distracting. This is down to laws of Physics and no technology can fully overcome it without a trade off/compromise - personally I'd opt for the repositioning rather than absorbing and 'smearing' a hue/glow over the entire screen's surface, the subtle result from having a matte screen... and b). some users may not have printing equipment calibrated to match the screen or visa versa - in which case it would be worth getting a quality calibration device tool in order to set the Thunderbolt Display monitor so that printing equipment and monitor match, then job done! (although a calibration device should really be used on any monitor beforehand regardless of type for accurate results).
