Miserable compatibility with Windows 7 and video capture 4 Jan. 2010

This card failed to install properly under Windows 7. Had to manually assign "legacy" drivers to it, which allows it to work for file transfers under windows. However, it does NOT work for video capture using my Canon HV30 digital camcorder. Got error message saying card would not initialize or would not respond. I could get first frame of video capture then it would fail. It might be the result of small onboard memory buffer (see Wikipedia for info on the controller chip manufactured by JC Micron Technologies).

I just bought a new generic "Dynex" card from Best Buy and it works fine. Major disappointment but probably not worth the hassle of a return considering it was only $18. I just wish I could get back the 4 hours of troubleshooting, scouring AV forums, etc!

Buyer beware.

I bought this to use with my custom built Hackintosh (ASUS P7P55D-E Pro Motherboard) running OSX 10.6.4 and it found it no problem. I am currently using an Avid Digi 003 firewire audio interface and have no issues with it.

Installed like a breeze. 25 April 2012

I am running Windows 7 (64Bit). My new motherboard does not have IEEE 1394 ports, so I needed to add them, plus the header to connect to the connector on the front of my case. Installation consisted of removing the side cover, removing the dummy cover on the card slot I wanted to use, connecting the cable from the case to the header, and reinstalling the side cover. I powered up the computer. After Windows started, a message popped up on my task bar saying Windows was installing drivers. A few seconds later the message informed me the drivers had been installed successfully and my hardware was ready to use. I plugged my scanner into each available port and did a scan. Everything worked fine! What could be easier than that?

Adds 2 Firewire ports 28 July 2011

I installed this 1394A card in my 5+ year old homebuilt computer with an ASUS A8S-X main board running Windows 7. Board was recognised by the BIOS and Windows and the drivers installed automatically. The case has a front panel Firewire connector and I connected it's cable to the J1 connector. This connection works fine but with this cable connected I cannot use the CN2 connector in the back (these share the same internal interface on the board). This was found by testing. The CN1 connector works fine.

The card was in a box with the company name "I/O Crest" on it not "SYBA". It is the same card that was advertised by Amazon.
