Got the toy for my disabled son, as hoping to develop cause and effect, and use of remote (with a view to motorised wheelchair use later on). Very much enjoyed, although it struggled to get up the train set hills / over bridges etc. When batteries ran down, my nephew tried to play with it by pushing it along, which has stripped the gears so will only go in reverse now. Good toy but needs to be used with the remote therefore.

This has the potential to be a great toy, both my boys have one. the first train is 2 years old and is still going strong. The second is 2 months old and no longer works. Amazon will not replace it or take any other action because it didn't go wrong within 30 days of receipt, so if you are going to buy it's worth buying from a retailer with a better policy on return of faulty goods - like john lewis.

We also had problems as described by others: the train suddenly stops working (often only motion but not lights or horn) and battery replacement will not fix that. We had three replacements as I bought this from a shop after which I lost the receipt. I then opened up the train (which is difficult because of triangular screw fittings) and found the reason. A cable connecting the battery supply in the train front to the remote control unit at the end had ripped off the circuit board. Basically, the cables run through the articulated bit in the middle and are not pinned in there, so as time goes by the tension on the cable strand increases until one after the other rips off the circuit board. Depending on how long the cables in your train are, this may take longer or shorter, hence the different experiences described by people. Re-soldering the cables has fixed the problem for us, but only temporarily. I will now try soldering in longer cables and also fixing them in the articulating plastic bit. This should make it last, I hope. It would be an excellent toy if it were not for this design fault. Great fun while it lasts.

Shame it broke

Disappointing
