Biography

GEORGE THOROGOOD has a theory. “In any field, especially the arts, there are always two things—‘genius’ and ‘very clever.’ There’s no in-between. You’re either a genius or very clever. I’m going to throw out two names at you. John Lennon--genius, right? And Mick Jagger? Very clever. See what I’m saying? I’ll give you another ... 5.0 out of 5 stars Thorogood...Thoroughly Good! 27 Dec 2004
Format:Audio CD
As a rock fan, 42 years and counting, its hard to find something new and exciting.
The answer to the problem appears to be to find something older and more mature.
Why ? Because this is what has set the bench mark for everything that has followed and has invariably failed to hit the mark.
George Thorogood and the Destroyers provide high octane rock n roll/blues that hits its target and destroys it every time.
As a young rock fan I had heard of Thorogood and the Destroyers but not heard them. Desperate for something new to listen to my wife bought this DVD for me at Christmas.
Great songs, great band, excellent performance, good humoured show and interspersed with interview footage and a couple of extra features (promo video and acoustic versions of a couple of songs).
Giving this DVD a maximum 5 stars does not do justice to the talent of this man and this band.
Mature musicians playing Classic Rock or old blokes playing old songs...it don't get better than this.....pour me a Bourbon baby I'm coming home !

1.0 out of 5 stars Buddy Leach is no Hank Carter 31 July 2009
By A. Carranza - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Two problems with this release:

1) The mastering is atrocious. The sound signal has been compressed to such an extent that there is audible distortion from the beginning of the recording to end. It is so bad that the first time I played this CD in my car I thought the CD player had broken. The record company should be ashamed of releasing such an inferior product, and the mastering engineer should be summarily fired and never allowed to work in the business again.
2) Buddy Leach's performance on every song on which he didn't originally play on is awful. All the sax solos are very different and far, far from good. Think of a replacement singer improvising new lyrics to classic songs night after night and you'll get an idea of what these songs sound like. The sax solo on Night Time is gone in its entirety and replaced by a guitar solo. One wonders if Leach's attempt at a solo during rehearsals sounded so bad that not even Uncle George could stomach it. It does truly ruin every song.

I love George and the Destroyers, I have every album and I've seen every tour for the past 16 years, but I absolutely, 100% hate this album. I can't stand listening to it. If you want good Thorogood live, get the LIVE, Let's Work Together and Live in '99 albums. Skip this one!!!
5.0 out of 5 stars Live George Is The Best George 21 Mar 2007
By The Bluze Brother - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
George is at his best when he is live in my opinion. All the songs on the cd I have some where else but NOT LIVE. I get off on live George. He just makes the house rock. I crank it up until the walls shake, the windows rattle, the tweeters and woofers are going nuts and then just sit back and enjoy George and the Delaware Destroyer...nothing pretentious here. George gives his band due credit and they all rock and rock and rock. After a session with George my adrenaline is up but I am wore out. In this compilation he did a few live songs that I had never heard live - Night Time, Don't Let The Bossman Get You Down, Greedy Man, The Fixer, and That's It I Quit. His classics Who Do You Love, I Drink Alone, 1 Bourbon, 1 Scotch, 1 Beer and Rockin My Live Away are fantastic but what gassed me was his live version of The Sky Is Crying (man Elmore James, Hound Dog Taylor and Jimmy Reed would be proud of him). Go buy it and see what happens to you. Betcha the same thing.
5.0 out of 5 stars "And away we go!" 12 Oct 2005
By S. O'Toole - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Thirty years of Destroyers rock 'n' roll is featured on one of the best live discs George has released (behind "Let's Work Together").

The track listing is routine stuff by now but the production is excellent and the performance is tight. Much better than "Live in '99".

If you're a Destroyers fan this is the live CD you'll be playing, if you're new to Thorogood this is a great introduction and a document of one of the greatest rock 'n' roll bands in history.
