Schroeder's first couple of albums in 1979 and 1980 saw him sorting out some avant-garde and experimental issues - thereafter he settled down to a somewhat predictable but pleasant output of music based largely round simple sequences and percussion monologues. Little has changed over 30 years, there is little to distinguish this from his 1980s titles that have recently come out in remastered format. Mediocrity is Schroeder's appeal: occasionally he trips into something a little more creative, but largely it's just a smooth roll down electronic rock's gently flowing river. Good stuff if you're tired of the usual crowd and want to explore someone new, but many of his albums are much of a muchness, so really any will do the job. Good stuff but not great stuff. Just avoid his soundtracks - like many other artists, OSTs are just easy low-effort mood music.
