Review

'If you struggled with Stephen Hawking's book about Big Bang and gave up halfway through Brian Cox's programmes about the solar system, then this book could be for you. It really does deliver elementary particle-sized nuggets designed to be read in 30 seconds on 50 subjects, from The Big Bang to the search for life on another planet.' -- Katie Law Evening Standard

I'm going to stick with the theme and type this review in 30 seconds.

A brilliant book, especially for those with only enough time on their hands to dream about that which lies beyond our World's atmosphere. Martin Rees' other books are fab too- I'm sure you will find something to interest you.

Bought this for myself as someone lovely presented me with a small telescope last year! Need to get using it. Haven't built the observatory yet but knowing what I'm looking at will motivate me.

Not exactly mind blowing as described! Could have been explained in simpler terms. A little disappointing to say the least

30 Second Astronomy - edited by Francois Fressin - [science-astronomy - 0612 - August 3, 2015]

This handsome hardbound book is a highly recommended primer to 50 of the most interesting astronomical topics. Each subject is detailed in laymen terms on the left page - on the right is a color images or drawing of the topic under discussion. In addition there are several biographical essays of foremost astronomers.

Amateur astronomers, the curious and serious high school students will find this a useful and interesting book.

One of my life long guilty pleasures is astronomy. It began in 1959 by seeing the craters on the moon, the rings of Saturn and Jupiter's four largest moons through my 2-inch Tasco refractor telescope. I have always remained a rank amateur with a burning curiosity about subject astronomical.

I am confronted almost monthly with amazing new discoveries - planetary missions, comet and asteroids flybys - to put things in context and keep my knowledge fresh I periodically purchase book like this one - highly recommended.
HASH(0x8f6a35e8) out of 5 stars Astronomical !!! 3 Sept. 2014
By Rockstar - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
An excellent astronomy primer covering the essential aspects of the field. It concisely covers the planets, the solar system, the stars, the Milky Way, the universe, space and time, and other worlds (astrobiology); and it does so in about 160 pages. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and I am sure that I will refer to it often.

This is a clear, simple book for beginners to astronomy. It introduces most of the basics. Every page has beautiful illustrations and designs! Not bad.
