2.0 out of 5 stars Not a patch on the original 8 Oct 2010
By J. Morris TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:DVD
30 Days of Night: Dark Days opens where we left off at the end of 30 Days Of Night, except the character Stella Oleson (Josh Hartnett's wife from the first instalment originally played by Melissa George) has been recast and filled by Kiele Sanchez (A Perfect Getaway). Nearly 10 months on from the atrocities that happened in Barrow, no-one will believe that it was anything but a pipeline fire despite Stella touring the country and giving talks, desperately trying to raise awareness of the vampire society lurking in the shadows. When she stumbles across a group of vampire-hunters (Harold Perrineau from Lost among them) who have all lost someone close to them to vampires, they set about taking down the queen vampire who's been pulling all the strings, Lilith.

Initially I was excited to learn that there was a sequel, then a little disappointed when I heard none of the original cast had signed up, then a whole lot more disappointed when I discovered it was a straight-to-DVD release...

Resultantly, Dark Days (DD) leans heavily on it's bigger-budgeted forebear, borrowing entire sequences from the original film and laying them in the stereotypical 'nightmare' sequence, ending with the protagonist waking up sweating and gasping for air. This cliché can be forgiven if it has any bearing on the current story, but it doesn't. As a result it seems like the director Ben Ketai just wanted a few moments of the film to have the production values of a hollywood release.

2.0 out of 5 stars Prepare for a dissapointment!!! 25 Jan 2011
Format:DVD
Having watched the first one and absolutely loved it, I was optimistic despite reading reviews saying it was a poor sequel. However, unfortunately they were right, therefore regretfully I think the film is worth 2 stars.

There was however the occassional suggestion of quality. The start of the film was original yet was well integrated into the story of the previous film. The graphical aspects of the vampires were realistic and there were definate resemblances to the previous film's vampires. Despite this, the vampires in this film were more like zombies apart from the head vampire. There was no urgency in their acts.

I found the film to be extremely poorly scripted with cringe-worthy comments. There was a 'halloween' style about it, where the vampires would walk really slowly yet be right behind the characters all the time. The main character was extremely hollow in my opinion. I felt no connection to her what so ever. Whereas I couldnt help but feel sad at the end of the first one where the main character dies, and she cradles him in his last moments, I felt nothing for these characters, and the romance in this film was ridulous and unbelievable. Considering the group are meant to be seasoned vampire hunters they sure are pathetic and wimpy, especially the young girl, who I found annoying to the point of me wishing she would hurry up and die (sorry to be so sadistic).

And the ending (without spoiling it), come on!!! this is one film I wont be watching again.

If you were a fan of the first film you may want to watch it just to find out what happens after. However, on the other hand it may actually taint your impression of the original. This was a definate B-movie. Avoid unless you are an avid fan.

This film follows one survivour from the fist movie as they try to destroy the vampires who destroyed there town. while on its own not a bad film, it does not have the visual suspence of the first film. but woth a watch on its own.

4.0 out of 5 stars Actually better than expected!! 11 Feb 2014
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
I bought this simply as i am a huge fan of the first and wanted to see if this was any good!! First of Mia Kirshner is in this movie in which i didn't notice until way in to the film but i like her and was glad there was a face i knew in this movie the other being Harold Perrineau Micheal from Lost!

The story focuses on the survivor from the first movie near a year later!!! She meets up with 4 others and they plan on killing the main vampire....

I won't say more but needless to say its gory and rather good it not a patch on the first but many movies are not!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars BAD SEQUEL 27 Sep 2013
By The Movie Guy TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
SO THIS IS THE SEQUEL?

I don't know where to start. It wasn't that great. The ending of the movie epitomized the deplorable script writing. Stella is attempting to tell the world about vampires while the government is trying to cover it up. The local FBI man is in cahoots with the vampires as he desires to be one. A group of vampire hunters meets Stella in her room and asks her to join them (along with a turncoat vampire) to go into the underground tunnels of L.A. and hunt down and kill Lilith, the vampire queen. Lilith speaks a strange tongue with subscripts, until the very end when she can suddenly speak English. The acting wasn't all that great. This is another movie which uses the high tech "special effect" of jerking the camera around to make us feel the terror of the scene (yawn!) because the script can't do it.

Lilith, in ancient folklore, fed off the blood on infants. They seemed to have messed that up too. If you watched the first one, go ahead and get disappointed on this one.
