Book Description

14 Nov 2002
Most toy industry analysts predict that "Lego's Mindstorms Robotic" kits will be the runaway hit of the 2002 holiday season. Initially targeted to kids and young adults, the creative possibilities offered by the Lego Mindstorms line of products have appealed to a large adult audience as well. Now, users of all ages can create another 30 incredible Mindstorm projects with Mario and Guilio Ferrari's set of three amazing books. Included in this set are: "10 Cool Lego Mindstorms, Dark Side Robots, Transports, and Creatures: Amazing Projects You Can Build in Under an Hour" (ISBN: 1-931836-59-0); "10 Cool Lego Mindstorms Ultimate Builders Set Projects: Amazing Projects You Can Build in Under an Hour" (ISBN: 1-931836-60-4); "10 Cool Lego Mindstorms Robotics Invention System 2.0 Projects: Amazing Projects You Can Build in Under an Hour" (ISBN: 1-931836-61-2); a bonus CD-ROM containing an e-copy of "Programming Lego Mindstorms with JAVA "(ISBN: 1-928994-55-5) and additional projects. "30 Cool Lego Mindstorm Projects: Amazing Projects You Can Build in Under an Hour" provides kids (and their parents) with instructions for creating really cool, new robots in less than an hour. This is a great interim step between building the 'standard' robots from the instructions provided with the kits and building 'free-form' robots with no instructions at all. This is a complement to the best selling "Lego MindStorms" product line. It features 24-pages of color. Each book contains an eight-page color insert that illustrates the complete projects in full-detail.

About the Author

Called the "DaVincis of LEGOS," Mario and Giulio Ferrari are world-renowned experts in the field of LEGO Mindstorms robotics.
Mario Ferrari received his first Lego box around 1964, when he was 4. Lego was his favorite toy for many years, until he thought he was too old to play with it. In 1998 the Lego Mindstorms RIS set gave him reason to again have Lego become his main addiction. Mario believes Lego is the closest thing to the perfect toy. He is Managing Director at EDIS, a leader in finishing and packaging solutions and promotional packaging. The advent of the MINDSTORMS product line represented for him the perfect opportunity to combine his interest in IT and robotics withhis passion for LEGO bricks, which started during his early childhood. Mariohas been a very active member of the online MINDSTORMS community from the beginning, and has pushed LEGO robotics to its limits. Mario holds a bachelor'sdegree in business administration from the University of Turin. He is fluentin many programming languages and his background includes positions as an ITmanager and as a project supervisor. Mario estimates he owns over 60,000 Lego pieces. Mario works in Modena, Italy.

Giulio Ferrari is a student in Economics at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, where he also studied Engineering. He is fond of computers and has developed utilities, entertainment software, and web applications for several companies. Giulio discovered robotics in 1998, with the arrival of MINDSTORMS, and held an important place in the creation of the Italian LEGO community. He shares a love forLEGO bricks with his oldest brother, Mario, and a strong curiosity for the physical and mathematical sciences. He studies, works, and lives in Modena, Italy.

4.0 out of 5 stars An oldie but a goodie 25 Feb 2008
By John S. Kjellman - Published on Amazon.com

This is a set of three somewhat aged Lego Mindstorms (not NXT) books. Each has a section on basic building techniques as well as a few robot designs you can build. There are lots of good ideas here and the authors are all Lego experts and worth reading.
