If you compare the track listing of this CD to the track listing on the "3 Bats" DVD you'll notice 8 tracks have gone astray. You might wonder what, if any, is the point of releasing a live Meat Loaf show on a single-CD? In this instance there is no point. Sure what is on here is good but some of the best performances from the show are missing: "Objects In The Rear View Mirror", "Out Of The Frying Pan", and "Life Is A Lemon".

Despite being recorded during a punishing tour schedule, Meat Loaf still manages to switch to rip roaring voice mode for most of the tracks on here. For some tracks he is sounding better than at any other point in his career. The highlights on this CD are: "Rock and Roll Dreams", "Anything For Love" and "Bat Out Of Hell". The tracks from "Bat 3" are noticeably weaker, but Meat had only just started out performing them live. But for all the tracks there's no denying that the great man and his awesome band give 110% throughout. The lead female can sing, but she is no Patti Russo, whose shoes are far from filled.

I suggest spending the little extra on the DVD, download software to rip the DVD audio tracks to MP3 and burn them on to CD. You could also pick up the US import of "Meat Loaf Live Around The World" - a collection of live Loaf from the mid 90's era. Musically, the arrangements are not as tight, but unlike this "3 Bats" CD "Live Around The World" has (amongst most of his classic hits) "Anything For Love" performed in it's entirety.

This show doesn't always quite hit the mark, but when he is not in the midst's of a self-destructive touring schedule, Meat Loaf is more than capable of proving that he is still top his game - still, thoughtless/pointless record label cash-in's like this don't do artist or listener any justice.

My favorite tour to promote my favorite album ... so what to say ... This album has very good audio quality .... The only problem is that it is a shortened version of a particular concert in London (Canada) on 18 March 2007 ... Therefore, 4 stars and not five ... But Marion Raven and Paradise by the Dashboard Light with Aspen Miller is there and that's OK ...

Plain and simple Meat Loaf doesnt sound very good live anymore if this is the highlights of the 3 bats live tour. He overholds notes now, and sings in a strange voice live, he just doesn't sound very good anymore. Bad for Good and Blind as a Bat sound ok, but still inferior to the album versions by far. Paradise by the Dashboard Light sounds woeful, its actually painful to listen to it. Similarly I would do Anything for Love is truly rubbish. These are songs which i love take into account, and i am a massive Meat Loaf fan with all of his albums to date. If you want to here Meat Loaf live on an album. Live in Wembley from 1987 is great, or Live Around the World from 1995 is similarly great. Hopefully we might see another studio album from Meat before he calls it quits, but who knows. hopefully this won't be the way he will be remembered.
