17/18 and 19 September saw Deaf School perform at The Everyman in Liverpool to a fabulous reception from the crowds, I was lucky to go each night and it was amazing. As are these albums that have been released (I picked up my copies of each at the gig) and the inclusion of songs like Goodbye To All That (which they did live) is fantastic.

If you ever get a chance to see them live, do it, you won't be disappointed!! if not then these albums will keep you singing along!

2nd Honeymoon sounds as fresh, original and uplifting as it did 30 years ago. The band are back together and if you get the chance to see them I implore you to do so. This is definitely their best album; there is not a bad track on it. If you haven't heard Deaf School, give this a try - I guarantee (or as much as I can anyway) that you will be amazed at the inventive, intelligent songs that should have become instantly recognizable classics. As Paul Du Noyer said: 'There are only two bands from Liverpool that really matter; The Beatles and Deaf School.' You can't say much better than that.

I'm not a fan of 'bonus' tracks and I don't think adding a couple of outtakes and Peel Session versions of 4 of the tracks already on the album adds anything significant to what was a perfect record as it originally stood. Having said that, if you stop playing the CD after the album version of 'Final Act '(the ideal closer both for this record and their stage shows - catch them at the Garage in Highbury on 5 June), you will have heard a magical collection of literate pop songs that are hard to define as anything beyond being pure entertainment. My personal favourites are the intricately constructed mini-operas 'Nearly Moonlit Night Motel' and '2nd Honeymoon', the second of which ends with an indescribable climax what can only be described as...no, I can't describe it. One more quibble is that the original LP included the lyrics while here they are replaced with a history of the group but hey it's great to have these records in print at all. 'Don't Stop The World' and 'English Boys/Working Girls' are also available containing more Deaf School classics such as 'Taxi!' and 'Thunder & Lightning', and if you want still more Deaf School a re-release of 1998's live album '2nd Coming' is due soon as is a BRAND NEW ALBUM called 'Launderette' featuring seven new songs plus some recent live recordings.

On the recommendation of one of the guys in The Cars, I purchased this LP many years ago. I loved parts of it, but found some too "music hall."

A month or so though, the local college station played "What a Way..." and I had an overwhelming urder to hear Deaf School again.

I was so fortunate to find a CD - and an updated one, no less!

Love it love it love it. I play the "first side" constantly. Now I want to find the "2nd Coming" live performance.

This band dominated my youth and beyond.. Caught them live again after 30yrs, still managing to bring the house down, which they did at The Everyman Liverpool Sept 09.
This album is full of classic tracks that sound as fresh today as they did back in the 70`s.
All studio albums are being re-released Sept 09 with extra tracks, although for the complete anthology..." What a Way to End it All" is still available from Amazon for a bargain price.

Similar to other reviewers I purchased this album after seeing Deaf School live in December 2011, a good 30+ years on from my last DS concert. If you like Roxy Music, Bowie, early Cockney Rebel etc then this is for you. Have played this CD over and over since purchase and envisage doing so for some time to come. Joyous.

A really good -feel good- album. You cannot help but feel better after listening to this album- inventive, imaginative- and all the songs have great catchy melodies. Go on-treat yourself- you will not be disappointed.
