I bought the cable to link an external drive WD 1TB My Book Home Edition to my laptop (using a 2 port eSata cardbus adapter already installed) but after connecting the external drive, the computer would not recognize the external drive.
I read other reviews to this product and after trimming with a knife, 1 mm of the plug's outter casing to expose more of the metal, it worked fine.
It's great for the price, but not so good if you don't like DIY jobs :)

I bought this to connect a WD MyBook drive to my Dell Studio15.
I have difficulty getting a consistant connection. This may be the cable or the WD drive as I don't have another cable it is hard to tell. Once I obtain a connection the cable works well.
The flat cable doesn't work well with the WD drive as the socket on the drive is vertical. I would also recommend a shorter cable if it is to use with a portable drive.

I should have taken heed of the negative reviews as this cable is poorly designed. As with many other users I couldn't get a decent connection (to my e SATA dock and my MacPro) without first trimming the plastic around the connector with a knife. It should really be removed from sale on Amazon if so many buyers are having exactly the same problem with these cables.
I couldn't be bothered to return it as it was so cheap but I will choose more carefully next time.
