Simply put....This is real music for real people! Raw, expressive and highly innovative stuff. This cd is a true gem, containing highlights from 25 years worth of releases that truely have to be heard. A man who made music for his own sake rather than for the money or fame, the heart-strings can be heard in every song. Whether it be the bitter sit down blues of 'Get out of here pretty girl' or 'i remember' to the blistering lo-fi punk of 'Punk rock ist nicht tot','Lie detector','All my feelings denied', this really is a diverse mix of raw talent which is not grounded to one genre of style.
The Blackhands stuff is a suprising change, swapping fuzzed up electric guitars for acoustics and accordians (Anarchy in the UK is a treat), then the Delmonas is different again. Girl from '62, Troubled Times, The same Tree are instant underground classics. Crossing The Kinks with Sham 69, then taking a deep plunge into pre-grunge, and equalling in power of emotion to the old delta blues which plays a big part on Billy's style.
You can really hear where bands like The Hives, Nirvana, The White Stripes, Beck etc came from. Billy Childish proves it's not always about how many chords you know, or how good you sing a song, a real imagination goes alot further. THIS CD takes you away from the polished and money-made artists who are making a fortune riding off the backs of their peers, and yet still does the same thing, Rock on' in the real world, i wish more music was this good.
