Product Description

Bobby Darin was probably the most versatile and fearless vocalist of his generation, fully capable and willing to tackle The Great American Songbook, rock and roll and even folk music with his impeccable phras- ing and warm tone. So why should his Christmas album be any less adventuresome? The 25th Day of December with Bobby Darin alternates between reverential, traditional readings of songs like "O Come All Ye Faithful," "Ave Maria" and "Dona Nobis Pacem" to rousing, gospel-in-flected numbers like "Child of God," "Go Tell It on the Mountain" and "Jehovah Hallelujah," with great backing (on the gospel songs) by the Bobby Scott Chorale. This all-time Christmas classic from 1960 has somehow been out of print for a while; our Real Gone release offers a first time ever STEREO reissue, complete with a bonus track (in mono), "Christmas Auld Lang Syne." Darin expert ames Ritz provides the liner notes and rare single picture sleeves.

Parents had this album when I was growing up, and the songs just stuck in my head. Very inspirational, Just a great album from start to finish. Every Christmas would wish I had it to play. Now I do. Even when not Christmas songs even pop up when I shuffle and I still listen thru. Bobby Darin was great

A Bobby Darin Classic 22 Nov 2013
By Karen Esibill - Published on Amazon.com

Bobby Darin was a versatile, daring performer, and this superb, Christmas album is a testimony to both. His selections are a unique blend of gospel, traditional hymns, and a magnificent rendition of Ave Maria. There's a bonus track of his lovely "Christmas Auld Lang Syne" which, to me, is as classic as Bong Crosby's "White Christmas." This is Darin at his best--although Darin was always at his best. He is one of the true greats.

Great to have in stereo 21 Dec 2013

When this appeared in 1991 from Atlantic/Atco it was in monaural sound. It is an excellent sounding stereo vinyl disc, so this was disappointing, especially when That's All, This Is Darin, and Darin at the Copa were all released in stereo. Always felt that this is one of Darin's finest efforts--off-the-beaten track numbers. Not your standard fare. Even a non Christmas song (Jehovah Hallelujah) is included. Bobby Scott's arrangements are first-rate, and the chorus adds a wonderful touch. The up tempo numbers are the highlights of the disc. A must have addition to the Darin collection.

Nice change from modern Christmas albums. 22 Dec 2014

Very traditional and spiritual album. Definitely a side of Bobby Darrin not often seen. I enjoyed it very much. It is a nice break from the over the top, over produced, over performed, and spiritually washed over modern Christmas albums. It was nice to see an album by a pop star for that time uncompromising in its message. Undeniably Christian yet well presented and focused.

I hated that I didn't get to preview but I'm so glad I took a chance. Bobby Darin's voice is delicious and the songs are great too. Favorite Christmas music ever!
