A great read - gripping and hard to put down, 6 Feb 2010
This review is from: 24 Hours That Changed the World (Paperback)
I have really enjoyed the '24' series on TV - the suspense, following one main plot and then seeing several other threads occuring in real time. There's betrayal as someone you thought was trustworthy and respectable turns out to be working for the evil ones, danger, action .... and all this happens over the course of 24 hours.
This short book is written in a similar thread about the 24 hours surrounding the trial and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Here, you have the danger, the growing unrest, the betrayal etc. I read it in one sitting as it followed the twists and turns and amazingly for a short story it went into details I did not know (like what the food at the last supper was, and the significance of each food which I did not know or appreciate) and brought another dimension to my understanding and enjoyment in the book.
Those 24 hours really did change the course of history and the world and so I recommend it to everyone - christians and non-christians alike - it's a gripping read and like '24' you may just be surprised where the story takes you !

24 minutes to make a choice, 5 Jun 2009
This review is from: 24 Hours That Changed the World (Paperback)
Love the format of this book. 24 is one of my favourite shows and I think this format will appeal to anyone who watches it, but it is also fast paced and exciting, so it should appeal to a wider audience too. I'm already a Christian, and would be happy to give this out at events as a kind of tract.

Want to know about the meaning of life? If so, this book's a must-have!, 20 April 2009
This review is from: 24 Hours That Changed the World (Paperback)
Just as each hour of Bauer's 24 leaves you longing to find out what will happen next, Nick has successfully brought a similar kind of tension to this book.
'24 Hours' explains why Jesus had to die using the structure of the 24 TV series - in other words, one chapter for each hour of the day when Jesus was crucified.
It makes for gripping reading with its stark and vivid portrayal of Jesus in those final hours before crucifixion. Whether it's the power of words on a page or whether it's the way in which emotionally charged scenes are condensed into just 24 hours, there's something about this book that re-creates Christ's suffering in a way that is even more poignant and disturbing than if seen in a visual context. Even long term Christians could read the book and become newly aware of the injustices and torture that are part and parcel of the gospel. Excellently written, brilliantly told.
