Product Description

Product Description

A gorgeous photography collection which provides an intimate look at one of music's most popular, prolific, and notorious artists, Ryan Adams. Including over 200 photographs, many never-seen-before, this is a must-have for rabid fans and collectors of Ryan Adams and the Cardinals memorabilia. Hailed as a musical genius by his contemporaries and always the subject of tabloid headlines, these photographs capture the exhilaration of the stage and studio while sometimes exposing the solitary aspects of the creative process and life on the road. Photographs are all by the lead guitarist for the Cardinals, Neal Casal, Ryan Adams himself wrote the introduction, band commentary is featured throughout and the afterword is by musical legend Phil Lesh. 'I think there are really only two kinds of pop music CDs these days. There are the ones you listen to only once or twice, maybe downloading the single good song to your iPod or computer; then there are others that grow stronger, sweeter, and more necessary each time you play them. "Gold" was that way; "Cold Roses" was that way; so was "Jacksonville City Nights". I won't say Adams is the best North American singer-songwriter since Neil Young...but I won't say he isn't, either". - Stephen King.

Amazing!!! 27 Feb 2010
Format:Hardcover
I absolutely adore my copy of A View of Other Windows. Such an amazing photography book on the Cardinals, which evokes so many emotions and makes me miss the band even more. The band commentary and introduction by Ryan shed more light on the inner workings of a band that should have never called it a day. Sometimes the photos of the late Chris 'Spacewolf' Feinstein can be a bit too much to bear, but they are a fitting tribute to a talented musician.

Being a member of 'The Cardinals' has afforded Neal Casal the kind of access that many photographer's could only dream of, and it's an opportunity he doesn't waste. At home, in the studio, on the road and some of the highs & lows inbetween, he captures The Cardinals not only as a band but also as friends. We also get to look beyond the often difficult & arrogant public persona of Ryan Adams to see a hardworking and intense musician, with a playful/goofy natured side. This is a great collection of photographs that will serve as a document alongside all of the amazing music, from an already missed band.

I came late to the Cardinals, and to my eternal sadness, missed them when they visited my home town on their farewell tour. This book offers some consolation.

Probably one for Adams freaks and Cardinals completists, but this is a great photographic document of a fantastic band and talent on the road. There is a telling introduction from Adam's himself and a few nice little insights on the band's philosophy and ways of working, but I would have preferred a little more comment and description, especially considering the dearth of available biographical material. For that absence, it drops a star - though I'd give it 4 1/2 stars if Amazon would let me. Casal is a fine photographer.
