I got this book after i'd only liked Pearl Jam for 2 months or so. I had most of thier studio albums by this time, but not quite all. I found this book interesting and it had some good pictures. However, now, a few months on, i know more about Pearl Jam from other resources and realised that this book only covers the basic outline of Pearl Jams career. There are also a few typing errors and slightly wrong facts which isn't very reassuring. I thought there was too much written about the article in Rolling Stone about Eddie Vedder. Basically saying that he lied about his childhood and such. It wasn't necesaary to dedicate a whole chapter to it in my opinion.
This book will probably prove to be informative to new fans of the band who don't know much about them. Long-term fans of Pearl Jam are unlikely to find this interesting or tell you anything you didn't know already. Especially if you have read lots of magazine interviews with or about the band, because it is clear the author got all his information from magazines.
I feel that there must be a better author out there who could write a really great Pearl Jam book. They have had an interesting career but i don't think Martin Clarke conveyed that greatly. This book comes across as a rushed effort by a man who doesn't care that much for Pearl Jam.

Although the book is is very readable it only takes a chapter or so for you too realise the author draws heavily on other pieces written about the band, especially the Rolling Stones articles. You would have too be a real fan to buy this if you have already got Kims 5 against one or Mick Walls Pearl Jam. It does have some new pictures though I had not seen before.

This book gives a simple and brief version of the events that have made pearl jam one the most respected bands in the world. All quotes are taken from other publications like Guitar Player and Melody Maker and there is no direct contact with the band making this feel like simply someones elses opinion's on events. However it does have some interesting information.
To best way to sum this book up is that the Mother Love Bone section is about 2 pages long....

Informative, but Eddie-worshipping
This book very much deserves the 'and Eddie Vedder' in the title, it sorta portrays him as a tortured genius. Read more
