Review

'With a winning mix of classical drama and sharp satire, Prebble tells the story of Jeffrey Skilling, the former president and man behind the collapse of the Texan energy comapny in 2006. Her energetic, quick-witted dialogue makes this a jump-off-the-page read.'
--Whatsonstage.com (September 2009)

The political theatre of the 21st century has arrived, in some style. --Dominic Maxwell, The Times (23.7.09)

Lucy Prebble's powerful, pertinent new play Enron shines a startling light on the sudden collapse of the US energy and communications giant. --Mark Shenton, Sunday Express (27.9.09)

Product Description

'The only difference between me and the people judging me is they weren't smart enough to do what we did'. One of the most infamous scandals in financial history becomes a theatrical epic. At once a case study and an allegory, the play charts the notorious rise and fall of Enron and its founding partners Ken Lay and Jeffrey Skilling, who became 'the most vilified figure from the financial scandal of the century'. Mixing classical tragedy with savage comedy, Enron follows a group of flawed men and women in a narrative of greed and loss which reviews the tumultuous 1990s and casts a new light on the financial turmoil in which the world finds itself in 2009. The play is Lucy Prebble's first work for the stage since her debut work "The Sugar Syndrome", winner of the George Devine and Critic's Circle Awards for Most Promising New Playwright. Produced by Headlong, "Enron" premiered at Chichester's Minerva Theatre on 11 July 2009 and opened at the Royal Court Theatre, London, in September.

Excellent play 28 Dec 2009
Format:Paperback
This is undoubtedly one of the most exciting new dramas of the last few years. It uses the Enron scandal to examine some of the issues that have bedevilled us during the recent financial crisis - in particular, the mismanagement of companies by narcissistic and greedy managers, and the slavish devotion to complex financial instruments. It has strong characters and smart dialogue, combining details taken from reality (most though not all of the characters are based on real people) with imaginative flights of fancy. Sharp and original.

Small book 23 Feb 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Suprisingly lean little book. Good if you're into plays but otherwise a bit slim and disappointing. Better to see the film Enron.
