For any budding guitarist, the books represents an ideal vocal guide to the great Beatles songs of John, Paul, George and Ringo, but if you try and play the chords in the suggested fingerings, frustration will soon set in (as well as finger cramp) given some of the suggested chord shapes.
As with most modern chord books, the words and music are transcribed and the chords are added at a later date. However, instead of a guitarist adding the chord shapes, another musician (probably a piano player) simply "cuts and pastes" a set of standard chord shapes from a simple data base.
Take the classic "If I fell". I agree it opens with a Ebm, but it is not played as an open chord (listen to a recording), it is played as a barre chord at the sixth fret followed by a barre chord D at the fifth, and so on.
So listen to a recording, work out the easiest chord positions and enjoy the book this way. This is how you'll get good value for money - and less finger cramp. After all, you never saw the Beatles in pain when on stage!
Theres just so much here!
