For ages, I've been looking for a decent boardgame that you can play with just two people (so many need three players or teams) - and finally I've found it! 221B is an excellent, thought-provoking game, ideal for anyone who enjoys games such as Cluedo.
221b Baker street is a very simple game to understand, with very few rules, so you can start playing very quickly instead of having to read your way through an instruction booklet the size of your local telephone directory. The game comes with 40 different cases, and it's your job, as Sherlock, to solve them.
Each case is detailed on a card, and tells the story of a crime, detailing the probable suspects and a list of important locations. Clues are hidden at each of fourteen locations on the board. Players must collect these clues and deduce their answers from these, in order to solve the crime.
Some of the clues are very easy, while others take a little more thought and deduction, meaning it's probably not suitable for young children to play. The box recommends it being suitable for ages 10+. An average game with four players lasts around 1hour20 minutes.
As there are only forty cases, there will be a point when there are no more crimes left to solve, however, I understand that extra 'booster boxes' are available.
Highly recommended!

What an excellent game! Not really child friendly as is aimed at adults (Well maybe really smart kids as-well?)
It's like Cludo in the fact that you have to solve a mystery, apart from that this game is on another level. Read aloud the scenario and what you have been hired to do (a Murder or maybe stolen jewels etc...) Roll the dice to move your character to different locations on the board to get clues. Mark them off and keep thinking about the opening scenario as that has hidden clues in there too. You could have to say (for example) work out Why the victim was murdered, how they were murdered and by whom.
Or on another case, Who stole the Jewels, how they broke in and escaped and where they are now. Much more in-depth than Cludo!

Would recommend. (The more players the better)

Five stars may seem a little irresponsible, but four stars just doesn't cut it for this game. And, since there are so few decent board games created which genuinely engage, provide and reward, I'll stick with the five.

This game has a lifespan. It is really only good for 75 game. However, how many times do you ordinarily play a board game? By the 75th game, I'll likely have forgotten the specifics of the case (Although, not my first case. I really felt like I was chasing the clues around London). Having come off the back of playing two less-than-enjoyable games, which clearly had as much thought go into the design as that game with the hippos and their starvation, this was a delightful breath of fresh air.

75 cases are constructed, with back-stories, and allow for many hours of good old board game fun. I cannot emphasize enough the fun that this game provides. It is effectively Cluedo on steroids. And that ain't a bad way to be.

A great game with a larger variety per play than in any other board game available. Cludeo is completley trumped in every way with this clever but easy to learn mystery board game.
You will not be dissapointed.

I remember buying this game from Hamleys, way back in the 80s, when they had a store in Birmingham.

It contained then a set of 40 cases and, as I and my then partner solved them all, new packs of clues began to emerge, more fiendishly difficult to solve that the last.

All sorts of clever plots - murder, fraud, arson etc etc - crop up and the game was a delight to play and really took me into the world of late Victorian England and the sinister doings of Limehouse, the Park, the Museum etc.

Overall, a very clever game, easy to play and entirely absorbing. Worth a few bob of any Sherlockophiles money.

this board game was a game that my girlfriend used to play when she was a kid. I bought it for her as an christmas present and I had never played it before. I it a brilliant game a bit similar to cluedo but far better as there is more variety and more of a skill level in trying to slove the clues. There 40+ mysteries to slove so that's good value for money.

It's an interesting game, though it takes a bit of time to set up and a lot of thinking (Which we usually don't feel like after our daughter has gone to bed. She's 2, so couldn't really play! :) We have managed to play 4 games so far, and 2 of them have left us both completely clueless! So it's definitely worth its money, it's not too easy for even adults.

Pieces look fun, some of the Sherlocks have pipes and some don't, there are definitely enough sheets for clues, and the die is nice, though it doesn't roll very well on the board. Board itself looks nice and has fun little details on it, I like the way ground on the edges changes to sky for some of the locations.

Only downside for me is that the box is absolutely huge. It could have been much smaller, if the board had been made of 4 pieces. Actually, it could be smaller even now, but I guess the painting on it is vital part that they want to include.
