4.0 out of 5 stars A well-written and useful insight 14 May 2002
By A Customer
This book from Karl Sabbagh documents the entire design process from the initial drawings to the final roll-out of the aircraft.
For the most part the book is well-written and informative, although with such a wide-ranging subject to cover, there are times the book appears to "skimp" on detail. In addition, Sabbagh has a tendency to display his ignorance of the technicalities of the subject and fails to explain complex concepts clearly.
One theme that runs particularly well through the book is that of the management environment of the project, and the useful influence that the senior management team at Boeing had on the successful delivery of the project. The reader comes away feeling that (s)he has come to know the characters almost personally and this human side of the story is particularly welcome in a subject that might otherwise have appeared stale.

4.0 out of 5 stars The project that took off 1 Nov 2010
Karl Sabbagh's fascinating story takes inside the hugely ambitious project to design and build the Boeing 777 airliner in the 1990s. It is more than a dry account of Gantt charts and network diagrams. As with all real projects, the important stuff is about the people who worked together to create this huge plane - all 10,000 of them. The book is full of powerful insights into how to organise and manage people in such a large endeavour, and is one anyone interested in projects should try and get hold of.
