Cliff Richard’s musical journey

1958

Cliff was signed by EMI to their Columbia label on August 9th. His first single (released August 29th) has remained an all-time classic - 'MOVE IT'.

1959

There were plenty of hit singles, with both 'LIVING DOLL' and 'TRAVELLING LIGHT' reaching No. 1 in the British charts.

The then major British teen music paper - New Musical Express - gave Cliff his first award -… Read more in Amazon's Cliff Richard Store

With two contrasting tracks, Cliff's latest offering can't miss. 21st Century Christmas just has hit record written all over it. With a catchy chorus and strong harmonies, this is a Christmas hit to be proud of. Forget Slade and Wizzard, Cliff is the man. In this Cliff fan's mind, this is Cliff's best Christmas track since Saviours Day. It's fun, catchy and infectious, with lyrics covering old and new ideas of Christmas. Sure, it's simplistic, but then, the best Christmas songs are.

Cliff for Number One I say!

Absolutely amazing! 4 Dec 2006
Format:Audio CD
You could not imagine two more contrasting songs but they are both completely awesome. "Move It" with the two Brians surpasses the original and puts current rock bands in the shade. It's edgy, vibrant, passionnate...you have to hear it.

The Christmas song, "21st Century Christmas" is a stunner. Firstly, Cliff sings it in a voice that is as beautiful as flowing silk. Secondly, the song is funky, catchy and at the same time has the caressing quality of "Mistletoe and Wine" which is my favourite Christmas song ever. Thirdly, it combines the traditional melodic Christmas song with modern R&B.

Fantastic - great Christmas pressie!!!

A very good release 14 Dec 2006
Format:Audio CD
I don't usually buy Cliff Richard's Christmas singles but I was particularly intrigued by the title of this year's release: '21st Century Christmas'. I'm very pleased with the purchase and am genuinely impressed by the way the lyrics persuasively and enjoyably demonstrate that Christmas retains its central meaning, even in the age of 'satellites tracking Santa', 'mobile numbers' and 'DVD'. The song has a fun, vibrant melody which benefits from a very professional arrangement. Cliff gets the vocals spot on - he rarely sounds more convincing than he does here. In addition, the B-Side rendition of 'Move It' has a cutting Brian May-induced edge that forms a neat contrast with the A-side.

There is a general tendency for people to dismiss Cliff Richard's work as 'tacky' or 'cringeworthy' (I've been guilty of this myself in the past). Nevertheless, '21st Century Christmas' is a lovely song which will undoubtedly cheer a lot of people up this Christmas. It should be added that it compares well with previous Cliff Richard Christmas releases such as 'Saviour's Day', 'Little Town' and 'Mistletoe and Wine'.
