Excellent reference work on an underrated Luftwaffe night fighter. When combined with Volume 1 it provides an excellent reference work.

I am not quite sure if I like this new style from Kagero. For the super detailler modeller, the 3D drawings are superb. But, unlike the pre release blurb, there is no information on the post war Czech aircraft - the real reason I ordered this book in advance.
Overall, there is plenty of information in this book, but I would check to see if it meets your exact needs before purchase.

Unique view inside the He-219 13 Aug 2013
By Mark Shanks - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I have not purchased the original one-volume Kagero Monograph (#41), so I can't comment on what was repeated from that in this publication. In the 110 pages, only 25 are text on the operational use of the plane. These pages are very well illustrated with photos, many of which are completely new to me. (And I've been a modeler since the mid-60's.) The majority of this volume (as opposed to HEINKEL HE 219 UHU VOL. I (Monographs, 3d Edition)) is dedicated to 3D CAD model illustrations of just about every aspect of the 219 inside and out. These are of photographic realism, and achieve a sense of the construction, armament, landing gear and crewstation design that simply could NOT be done in any other way. You really have to see these to appreciate the realism. Also included is a large (approximately 32" x 23") two-sided sheet of 1/32 scale plan and side views with details of the cockpit, Revi 16B gunsight, and DB 603A engine. There are no color profiles in this volume.

HEINKEL HE 219 UHU VOL. I of the series has 94 pages with 29 of them also being similar 3D models of exclusively the main elements of the crewstation, ejection seats, armored glass and main instrument panel. Volume 1 also has 13 pages of photos of the restored Smithsonian bird and both 1/72 and 1/48 line drawings.

The two volumes together present the most comprehensive reference I've ever seen on the He-219, and if I were going to build the Revell or ESPECIALLY the Zoukei-Mura model, I would consider both volumes an absolute necessity.

I give it only 4 stars because there isn't a word on the evolution of the camouflage of the 219 in either volume. The value of the two volumes is excellent, but without ANY treatment of the assorted versions of camouflage this ground-breaking aircraft wore, I was left just a bit disappointed.

Outstanding but minus one star for double dipping 4 Sep 2013
By Jim Davis - Published on Amazon.com

This is the 50th book in Kagero's "Monographs" series and the 4th of that series which features CAD (computer aided design) renderings of the aircraft covered. The book is a 8-1/4" x 11-3/4" (European A4) sized, 112 page card cover. There is a large (16 page equivalent) unbound foldout with conventional line drawings of the aircraft in 1/32nd scale. As always, if buying second hand, and if these drawings are important to you, make sure they are included.

The first 30 pages or so describe the service history of the He 219 in night action against the RAF's Bomber Command. It is essentially a distillation of official reports but is fairly well done and interesting, especially the ones which feature crews in difficulty. It would have been nice to have first person accounts but presumably there are few or none to be had.

The meat of the book are the CAD drawings. These are superb in every respect. They begin with the navigator's cockpit and work their way through the rest of the aircraft. The pilot's cockpit and ejection seat was covered in the previous volume. I wish the engines and accessories would have been covered in as much detail as the rest of the aircraft. Also, the captions to the various drawings could have been more informative. The reader is all too often left to work out things for himself. For example, the navigator's seat looks rather strange and is apparently supposed to slide back and forth between instruments and takeoff, landing, and ejection position.

Like Monograph 49 (the first volume in the He 219 3D edition) there is some overlap with the previous non-3D edition (Monograph 41). The service history is lifted from the previous edition but many of the black and white photographs are new and some of the old ones are reproduced in a larger size.

Unlike Monograph 49 this volume is highly recommended even if one owns the previous edition (Monograph 41). Kagero really should've published the CAD drawings and line drawings in one volume to complement the previous edition instead of a two volume new edition. I deduct one star for their attempt (successful in my case) to get readers to pay twice for the same material.

There are also two pages of computer images of the contemporary Focke-Wulf Ta 154 in the book. This is a little strange but apparently the next volume in this series is dedicated to that aircraft.

Heinkel He 219 UHU Vol. 2 14 Aug 2013

I saw this book listed on Amazon while I was waiting for a1/32 scale model of the 219 to be released. I bought the first volume of this book in preparation for my build. What the first volume had, which was the cockpit and some other areas, the second volume has the rest of the aircraft. Amazing digital 3D renderings, and good color references.

If you are building the Revell or Zoukei Mura He 219 these are the books you want. Both photos of the last existing 219 and great color 3D renderings.

Buy It you know you want it. Too many computer graphics but it is OK for extreme detail. #49 is the best one to get.

This is an excellent continuation from Vol 1 of the He-219. It is an excellent book for anyone modelling this aircraft. Wonderful presentation.
