Firstly this book is perhaps one of the most opulent, self-indulgent books I have ever purchased, but when it is the finest artist of his generation responsible for such extravagance how can you say no? Every photo appears to have been staged and feels more like a photoshoot than the intimate behind-the-scenes insight the book first appears. It features little in the way of photos from the shows and that is perhaps the biggest dissapointment. Especially as the Indigo o2 is not represented at all in the photography, a shame as I have great memories from seeing prince there and the CD is from his aftershow set there.

What makes this book special is the presentation, the quality of the paper and overall packaging is truly first rate, capturing the quest for perfection that prince has strived for in his performances. It is hard to knock such a well rounded product at such a fair price. It may be self-indulgent, but Prince is no egoist- he really loves to indulge his fans too and that is what we get in this lavashly presented book.

The CD is pure gold, you know why you want this, it is for the music and all that can be said is that it truly delivers. Okay Misty Blue and Alphabet Street do drag on a bit, but this is a wonderful exhibit to his musical genius. His live band sounded great in the indigo 02 and the sound quality of this live release is probably the best I have heard taken from such an intimate venue. It would be wrong for me to pick highlights as this is a largely flawless performance that is worth every penny, just wish the photos had a bit more soul to them.

I went to 7 of the 21 nights shows; I was expecting to have my memories enhanced by a catalogue of photos spread out from the nights - which lets face it, very almost perfection. However, this is not the case; hardly any of the pictures are actually from the live shows.
You do get some quality pictures of the bands and lots of Prince but they are not natural pictures, more posed pictures that would fit perfectly in a publicity shoot.
You also get page after page of photos of 'Chelsea Rodgers' who maybe beautiful but is not what I went to the gigs for.

Saying that, for £13.50, with the addition of a great CD (now this does help the memories - a DVD please Prince!!), this book is beautifully presented - the book is big, certainly not produced for this budget price, so it's a must buy - even if I'd say '21 Nights' is a slightly misleading title.

I like a several thousand people saw one of his shows at the O2. The man is a genius and the Indigo nights after show cd is a great way to remember the evening. The book however is not what I had imagined, with nearly all the pictures posed and very few actually taken at the O2, you even get a breakdown of what designer clothes the man is wearing for heavens sake. What happened to the raw pictures, photos that are not posed and taken after styling, make up, lighting and so on????

This is a very good album cover, it does not contain the sort of poetry and pictures I imagined and without the CD it would be a massive disappointment.

That being said if you are a fan, then you should buy this if only for the CD. Wow its seriously funky!

For such an expensive publication, this could have been an amazing documentary photography book or photographic diary. instead, the 21 nights in london are documented by countless (and pointless) shots of the empty rooms and corridors of the Dorchester Hotel in London.

There are no photos of London (or even Prince in London).
There are no captured intimate moments.
There are very few pictures of Prince, and the ones that are there are posed and unrelated to the 21 nights in london tour.
There are two or three photos of the stage show and they are all blurred and abstract.

During his stay in London, Prince and his entourage made numerous appearances across the capital - it seems like they left the photographer back at the hotel.
Believe it or not - the whole book looks more like a brochure for the Dorchester hotel more than anything else.

Re the CD. Really a matter of taste. It is a recording of a jam session. A lot of improvisation and nothing like the meticulously orchestrated concert itself. It does drag on a bit. Just sounds like Prince having fun with his mates. I got bored after about 15 minutes but fans might really enjoy this. After all, he is a great musician to listen to and has an awesome band.

I can't complain as i bought this book for £2 in the sale. I would be gutted if I'd paid £30

Prince has gotten a lot of stick recently for being too controlling, too obsessive, about fan site content. He doesn't like bootlegs or file-sharing - fair enough. Not keen on videos of his performances on youtube - um, ok. You can't have pictures of him on your site, even if you're entirely complementary and are encouraging sales of his records - what? Why?

Well, maybe this is the answer. Prince's ban on fan photos is made up for here by a massive collection of beautifully lit, composed, and coloured stills from the 21 nights he spent performing in London in 2007. To my mind, 21 Nights is not a book of photos with a bonus live CD however - its a live CD that comes with the biggest liner notes ever and the best illustrated. Prince after all is all about music first and foremost and 21 Nights is worth buying just for the CD alone. Prince manages to avoid the trap a lot of veteran performers fall into and makes songs he has been performing for decades still sound fresh and as fun for him to sing as for the audience to hear. DMSR mashed up with 3121, versions of Alphabet Street and Girls and Boys, and covers like Whole Lotta Love and Misty blue, all sound as good as you would expect and it is so nice to hear a quality live recording of Prince. But the fact is the package as a whole does include a beautifully presented coffee table sized book of photographs and poetry.

The photos are not as off-the-cuff and unguarded as the promotional blurb might have you believe. You will not see Prince rummaging through his sock drawer, surfing the net, eating a sandwich, or even something so mundane for a musician as stringing a guitar. Some people will think the pictures are all posed. Pretty much any one of the dozens of pictures here could be used in publicity material.
