5.0 out of 5 stars Versatile,practical and effective. 8 Nov. 2011
By Simpson
I have had this canteen for about six months now and am very satisfied with it.Although i have not been on any expeditions abroad I have done quite a bit of wild camping in the uk and this has given me complete peace of mind so far.

It kills two birds with one stone, essentially knowing that i dont have to lug 2-3 litres of water around with me all day and also that whatever water i find is going to be purified be it from a stream, lake (or puddle in emergencys!)

And it seems your are never too far away from a water source here in the uk which helps.

The sleeve is very useful and i either attach it too a webbing belt or the chest strap of my rucksack.

You can detach the filter very easily if you just want to use it as a canteen for a daily walk.

Realistically i have found it takes around 90-120 seconds of gentle pressure to fill 400 ml which is enough for a large brew,or enough to cook a packet rice or pasta meal. This is while the filter is doing it's job getting rid of any nastie's etc. This extra time is a very small price to pay for the freedom given,it's a no brainer in my opinion.

To sum up, this product essentialy has given me freedom too roam with piece of mind.An excellent, innovative solution.

5.0 out of 5 stars don't worry about the 1 negative review!! 21 July 2013
By jon
I bought this product from Amazon and took it with me on a 3 month trip to Africa.

The lack of weight and ability to always have clean, safe drinking water with me was brilliant, especially when cycling around in the strong sun... where continued water intake without having to carry supplies was invaluable. I could stop at local taps and boreholes and fill up, safe in the knowledge that I would not go short or get dehydrated.

But truthfully, I did have a problem with the bottle leaking on occasion. I wonder whether it was to do with the extreme heat causing parts to expand, as when back in the UK I couldn't get it to leak no matter how hard I tried! And I tried A LOT!

Anyway, to me... everything is a risk and from working in business I know that 1 time in 500 every business experiences an unlucky rare case where something is not up to scratch. That is inevitable. From talking to them, I now know that Drinksafe ship a lot of these bottles and the number of faulty ones that they get returned is very low. But I think it is how a company deals with this on the rare occasion something does go wrong that is what makes it worth putting your trust in a them or not.

I contacted Drinksafe and made them aware of the problem. The response I got made the phrase "no quibble" seem like an understatement. I have extra-replacement filters, extra seals, and replacement caps with me... all free-of-charge and all working fine this time. I am a customer who got the unlucky faulty product like the other negative reviewer on here, and like is possible when we buy anything... but instead of posting negative feedback I chose to contact the company.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Kit ! 4 Nov. 2011
A fantastic bit of kit especially if you work in remote areas with no mains water supply , essential part of my survival gear and highly recommended for any trip where water may be suspect. Check out their web site for demo you will be impressed , so much cheaper than the usual pump water filtration systems.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great product at a good price 12 April 2013

This bottle does what it says on the tin. I use it for wildcamping and as another reviewer has said, it saves me having to lug around 2 or 3 litres of water and then also having to ration the water once you've carried it to where you're going.

I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because on the odd occasion the cap can leak a little of the 'contaminated' water out when you squeeze the bottle (when you squeeze it, the whole thing deforms a bit and the cap loses it's seal), other than that though it's great, and I've only had it leak twice so far, and luckily the water I was drinking at the time was probably fairly safe anyway.

Another point I'd like to make is how cheap it is in comparison to it's competitors such as the LifeSaver bottle.

This is great tested it out in a local pond and horrible toilet taps, the water retains some taste but also feels very clean, the pond water was better in the end you get a nice natral plant flavour you miss out on from the tap, and no sicknes or death so it works :-)

4.0 out of 5 stars Explorer Pure Water Bottle Filter 31 Jan. 2014
By Johnty

Bought this to replace the Web Tex version of the same ive owned for a year or two. The filter inside the bottle snapped/broke on the Web Tex whilst I was carrying it around in a rucksack one day and you cant buy a replacement with their version. Don think this could happen on the Explorer Pure, its got a nice strong plastic guard around the actual filter inside the bottle which will protect it very well from knocks and bangs and squeezes I should imagine, and you can buy a replacement filter with the Explorer Pure, you just unscrew the old one and fit the new, you couldnt do that with the Web Tex bottle I previously owned you had to buy a complete new product/bottle, (so much better). Pricewise this bottle cost a bit more than the Web Tex version, about £8.00 more, but considering what ive already mentioned above, and the fact that you get a good fabric holder/sheath and belt with the Explorer Pure, I think paying the bit extra is really worth while. Havent really tried the bottle out in earnest yet, only the once, filtered some pond water for a brew, and used it to filter some tap water on several occasions and it performed well, no tummy upsets etc etc, so far so good. Only one little gripe, like with all of these water filter type canteen bottles, you have to apply considerable pressure to squeeze the water through the filter and after a few minutes the muscles in the fingers and hands and arms start to ache, quite badly, but once again its the same with all these type water filter bottles.

All in all a good product, I give it four or four and a half stars out of five, recommended.
