Product Description

Syma launch its latest S34 3 channel coaxial Larger Chinook helicopter! If you are familiar or have flown the Syma fleet of helicopters, you'll know exactly how stable it is! The new S34 is equipped with all the awesome features you'll come to expect from Syma with new features such as flashing lights, bigger battery, and a 2.4ghz LCD transmitter. The S34 is 3 channel helicopter. This means that it can fly in 6 directions. It flies Up/Down, Forward/Backward, and rotate clockwise and anti-clockwise. The size of this helicopter is suitable for indoor flight in smaller or confined spaces. Its coaxial rotor design is naturally stable in flight. Even beginners will find that it will control well. The built-in gyro is able to lock the heading and prevents continuous rotation of the helicopter chassis. The gyroscope is powerful and with the trim adjustment on the transmitter it can be adjusted in flight. What's impressive is that the helicopter can hover in the air with your hands free from the transmitter. The radio system included in this package uses 2.4ghz frequency. With the use of spread spectrum technology, the control distance of the helicopter is improved. Unlike infrared systems, you can fly this chopper without having to worry about glass, mirrors, or sunlight interfering with the signal. This type of frequency also allows some helicopters to be flown at the same time. The transmitter also has an LCD screen that displays trim and flight states of the helicopter. A high and low speed switch on the transmitter allows the pilot to control the throttle rate of the chopper for greater or less sensitivity. A 7.4v 500mah Lithium Polymer battery provides good power and about 6-8 minutes of flight time.

My Syma micro S022 is a lot of fun so I decided to give its bigger brother the Chinook S34G a try.

As usual the delivery via Amazon was very good and after a quick top up of its onboard lithium battery pack from the supplied charger/ balancer I was ready to rock and roll.

I was a little unsure if things to start off with but my fears proved groundless as the twin rotored Chinook S34G eased its way into the air of my living room. It's very stable and the fine trim forward/rearward tabs soon had it hovering smoothly.

Unfortunately the flight was short-lived as the battery pack drained away after 15 seconds of flight. A further recharge produced the same problem and so did the third. An e to the suppliers soon had a replacement pack with me after a few days. The underside hatch is secured by a single screw and a few minutes work had the replacement pack easily connected.

Later flying outdoors in a 3-4mph breeze proved impressive but anything above this would be probably result in marginal flying performance. The S34 is quite durable and spare rotor sets are inexpensive.

The Chinook looks good in the air and, imo, definitely worthy of consideration.

I find it is much easier to fly outside than in. I can control it in light airs but I haven't tried anything in a proper breeze. It has a bit of weight to it so it has handled the odd puff of breeze very well. I crashed it a good many times when getting used to it but now no crashes just the odd heavy landing. The plane is very strong and the only minor damage is the rotor blades which get a rather battered leading edge. This, however, is not a problem since spare blades are available and I have fitted a new set.

great fun my grandson loves it and it works really well, the only problem is the green light on the charger does not go out when charged even after four hours.

Unfortunately I had to send back. The helicopter and the remote controller would not communicate and I couldn't find any way of re-tuning or changing channel to try and make them talk. However, when I tried searching for advice online, I've stumbled upon reports of similar problems in American Amazon's reviews, so it is possible that there is a batch of those helicopters with a faulty radio receiver for example.
It's a bit disappointing when you consider the price and otherwise fantastic reviews.

I'm not advising against the purchase since, if you're lucky enough to get a fully working model, I'm sure you'll have heaps of fun with it, but if you need it for a present, I would definitely recommend buying it with an extra margin of time, so you have a chance to test it and, if necessary, get another one.

Since the seller, I got mine from, did not offer a replacement (their stock is apparently quite fluid so they can't guarantee they'd have another one at the time to replace it with) I had to send it back for a refund and, to be honest, I can't be bothered now to wait for my money to be credited back, then order another helicopter and then wait again for the delivery.

Okay, top tips pick a really calm day and fly it outside first. Be very gentle with the controls as it will hurtle upwards with out much movement on the stick. This I know as it flew over my house, luckily even though I couldn't see it the landing was good - right way up and on its wheels.
Although it says indoors I think they mean 'a large indoor space' especially for a beginner like me.
But having fun and it has survived the numerous crashes so far.

My son in law has had hours of pleasure in handling this helecopter, though it keeps on landing in his neighbour's garden.

The Chinook arrived before stated and very well packaged. On opening the box, the Chinook looked very big and very well made. When first flown I had fears of it going everywhere, but I can say truthfully that it flew marvellous, and to date have had to do no trimming. A MUST BUY.
