Zombie movies follow a basic formula because they are metaphoric of life. A group of people with brains seek out a safe utopian world free from the unthinking zombies who blindly follow the crowd trying to kill the idealists. There are 2 types of zombies. There are the foot dragging raised from the dead zombies and the faster moving viral zombies. In this regard, the film has met the basic requirements for a decent zombie film.

A group of survivors are headed toward the island of Catalina. Some die along the way. Some are added along the way as in any good zombie film. Why they choose to venture on foot rather than drive a heavily shielded vehicle, I don't know. The special effects were inexpensive CG critters, fires, and blood squirts. In these types of films it is the characters and dialouge that make the production stand out from other low budget movies. In that regard, this one failed to stand out. Ving Rhames needed a personality. Lesley-Ann Brandt had dead deliveries and wore jeans that never got dirty. Like John Wayne movies, multiple zombies die when one bullet is fired. The other film that goes by this name is far worse.

Parental Guide: No f-bombs, sex, or nudity

Well...It's got some very dodgy CGI, a pretty bad make-up department, and glaring, sometimes outright laughable continuity and design issues. It's pretty bloody in places but not 'grotesquely' gory. No entrails. No real 'flesh eating'. But despite all that, i strangely found that i enjoyed the movie over all! The main plus point for me was that there were actually a LOT of Zombies in it. Too many Zombie movies lately have been made featuring only a handfull. Here we have hordes! A few interesting 'kills' and a dodgy surprise near the end! Ving Rhames...pounding on Zombies with a sledgehammer was worth the price alone! It should earn a perfectly acceptable place among any Zombie collection.

Oh dear. Christmas comes early for another zombie turkey.......
This film starts post-apocalyptic with the standard blonde woman ( looking and dressed curiously like the main lead in the Dawn of the Dead remake ) a man with worryingly odd hair and another I've forgotten already, wandering around aimlessly with woefully inadequate weapons. They are set upon by a bunch of zombies that they slay with very strange blood effects ( that most have been made primarily for 3D viewing ?) but somehow miraculously manage to get so much as a smut on the cheek; let alone any blood on the ground. Well I suppose there are no longer any street cleaners so tidiness is a must.
They then meet another group of pointless people who have been wandering around zombie massacring for some time......equally as immaculate. The main female has even had time to pluck her eyebrows and have her pale leather jacket specialist cleaned in between killings. Marvellous.
The film goes on with them heading somewhere for some reason and having to fight off some CGI monsters en route for some other reason. I'm not sure if they got where they were going because I fell asleep 3/4 of the way through............ but I did wake up to see some of them get somewhere.
And that's about it really. Exit stage left.

I do not like the zombie genre. It is always the same story over and over again. People on the run after a zombie virus outbreak and killing as many zombies as they can en route to a safe place. Let me clear i find this as boring as The Walking Dead with the only difference that The Walking Dead is leaves you with a pessimistic feeling because in fact that serie is well made while this movie is pure rubbish.

Excellent fun while this doesn't hold up to the Romero classics it is still very well made and has a group of survivors trying to get to safety from one side of the city to the other. Ving Rhames is his usual great self and the scenes are thrilling and fun. There is a bit of CGI in the movie. What makes great zombie movies is the human drama between the action and gore and this definitely does not skip on that drama.

Well, THAT was an Apocalypse. Never before in a movie I saw so many mistakes then in this one. And it made us laugh so hard! For example cars driving happily in the background (take a look at the bridges were traffic goes on as usual), people passing by in the back while the actors struggling to survive, shutters that are open and closed and open and... (shot to shot). Oh man, it was a blast. So many flaws and no logic involved. Of course with all that going on you never got the feeling of a post apocalyptic, zombie infested world. And why does the make up just cover the faces and the decay stops at the body beginning with the neck? In one scene my partner said: "I guess they hired the actors for playing the zombies with the line: "bring your own masks"". It was sad, because the cast was very likable and you started to care for them. It also would have created some atmosphere, without those mistakes. Also the soundtrack was good (but to low). But after a while you did not see the characters anymore, you just saw a bunch of actors, playing around in studios and backyards while life around went on as usual... And that was funny. Even for a ScyFy production (if I would have known before that they are involved)... And why all the bad CGI? Sometimes less is more. Definitely!
