Product Description

AN ANCIENT PROPHECY, A DEADLY SECRET, AND ONLY ONE WOMAN WHO CAN SAVE THE WORLD. When archaeologist Dr Laura Shepherd discovers her colleague dead clutching a mysterious crystal skull, she is catapulted into a shadowy world of strange omens, psychic phenomena and cryptic codes. Her quest for the truth leads her to risk her career, her marriage, and even her life. Whe she learns of a terrifying prophecy for the year 2012, she sets off on a dangerous mission, to an ancient Mayan temple buried deep in the rainforest, surrounded by armed guards - determined to unlock the skull's secret, whatever the cost. What the critics said about the authors' last book: 'Excellent...Fascinating' - The Mail on Sunday (UK) 'This book reads like an Indiana Jones adventure tale. Seldom has a recounting of archaeological research resulted in such a fascinating, fun, but ultimately terrifying read.' Janet Brennan for Fate Magazine (USA)

I loved this book. I thought it was even better than Dan Brown - a gripping thrilling read, exceptional. Actually it was a bit like 'Indiana Jones meets the Da Vinci Code' but far more thought-provoking, sensitive and intelligent than either of these. It's basically an archaeological detective story and a dark supernatural thriller about what might happen at the end of this year if the ancient Mayan prophecies turn out to be true.

I also understand from an interview with the authors I just read in Exclusive Magazine .com that this novel actually began life as a screenplay which inspired both the Indiana Jones movie about crystal skulls and the Roland Emmerich movie about 2012, but this book is actually far better than either of these films. It's a great story so read it and enjoy!

Morton and Thomas's new novel is a gripping read. It's got something for most tastes. Whether you're into mystery, adventure, travelogue, sci-fi or human interest - they're all in here! Set partly in New York City and partly in the Central American Rainforest, it follows the fortunes of archaeologist Laura Shepherd who is an expert on Ancient Mayan inscriptions. The sudden and unexplained death of a colleague, while working at his own desk, sends her off on a perilous urgent quest and she needs all her considerable bodily and mental powers to survive herself. There is a telling message for our times, too. I know now what to buy for almost any of my pals next time I'm wracking my brains for a siutable gift ......2012: The Secret of the Crystal Skull

2012: The Secret of the Crystal Skull is an intelligent and exciting thriller which draws on Mayan mythology and archaeology to tell an apocalyptic tale. Opening with the mysterious death of an academic, it follows the investigation by archaeologist Dr Laura Shepherd and her partner Dr Michael Greenstone, a computer scientist, of the mysterious crystal skull that the dead man was studying. Morton and Thomas combine Mayan belief systems and contemporary power politics to achieve an exciting and thought-provoking story. They have written a non-fiction book on crystal skulls and their expertise in this field is what raises this novel above the rest of the 2012 inspired books and films out there.
