5.0 out of 5 starsSpartacus 40th Edition!1 April 2011
By Grady Harp - Published on Amazon.com
SPARTACUS International Gay Guide 2011,2012 is out and it is heavier and more informed than its predecessors. The book is written in four languages - German, English, French and Spanish - but the information is presented in such a concise manner that language is not an issue. At the beginning of the book is a very wise section of the dangers of illnesses in traveling - a real plus for travelers who have questions about accommodations and possible sequelae of visiting play spaces.
But what makes this such an efficient investment is the careful integration of locations and accommodations, prices, ratings, spots of interest leaving the reader and user with the feeling that once again Bruno Gmünder has placed a reliable and very helpful instrument into the hands of travelers. I find the individual country commentaries especially helpful, as they give good insight regarding acceptance of gays in each country. I've been purchasing this book for years, and the listings for bars, hotels, etc seem to get more accurate every year. I would not advise to use this guide solely for planning a luxury vacation.

every year, I try and treat myself to an overseas trip to a country that is hot and humid so I can have a few days free (relatively) from the pain of my arthritis. The Spartacus guides help me plan my trips, working out where I want to go and where I want to stay. I am too old and have spent too much time in pain to want to go ot stay anywhere that I dont feel welcome. So far Thailand is my favourite vacation spot and I prefer to either go to the islands or to Pattaya than to stay in Bangkok. Unfortunately, Bangkok is becoming too big, too touristy, too commerical and too dangerous to be as much fun or as exciting as it once was. The islanmds are the most unspoilt and Pattaya (while becoming commercial) still retains a lot of charm in off season, when it is bloody cold at home
