Book Description

8 July 2010 Collins Britain Big Road Atlas (Spiral)

The ultimate 3.2 miles to 1" scale large format atlas for the year 2011, featuring Collins well established mapping; designed for exceptional clarity and ease of use. Includes a wide range of urban area maps at larger scale plus 56 town centre street plans. Now with speed limits shown at speed camera locations. With lie-flat spiral binding.

This fully updated road mapping covers the whole of Britain with each scale of mapping colour-coded for ease of use. The smallest scale maps are great for long distance route planning and the street plans help you locate your final destination.

The atlas includes:
• Fully updated fixed speed camera sites with average speed camera locations clearly highlighted. All speed cameras show the speed limit.
• Route planning section including maps (16 miles to 1 inch) for long distance route planning, motorway services information and a handy distance calculator.
• Easy to use, clear road maps at a scale of 3.2 miles to 1 inch (1:200,000) of England, Wales and Southern Scotland. Northern Scotland is shown at 5 miles to 1 inch (1:316,800).
• 21 urban area approach maps at 1 mile to 1 inch which clearly show the best routes through and into the busiest built-up areas.
• 56 street maps focussed on town centres showing places of interest, car park locations and one-way streets.
• World Heritage Sites located with contact details and brief descriptions.
• Over 30 categories of places of interest including castles, theme parks, sports venues, universities, mountain bike trails and surfing beaches.
• Park & Ride locations shown, ideal when visiting towns and cities.
• Full postcodes for the top 1000 places of interest; ideal for use alongside satnav systems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spend now, save later! 15 Sep 2010
Format:Spiral-bound
These Collins big road atlas editions are a bit more expensive than many, but they're worth every penny! Close detail, sturdy yet easy to flick through (spiral bound)and now featuring postcodes for the main visitor attractions in the country, so if you have a pressing need to use this together with your sat-nav, you can have directions on paper and on screen at the same time. Not as if I think you'll need it, the road atlas is clearer than most sat-nav screens anyway.
To top it all off, this new edition has speed limits marked out for most roads. This, twinned with the speed camera symbols, will help you to cut down the number of fines. So, you may spend a little more for this atlas, but hopefully you'll save a tidy sum on speed camera charges later.

Bought this on a whim and crossed fingers it was what we needed and YES it was. Highly recommended. The pages are big and the roads very easy to follow. It is a big book but easy to handle and to locate places.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good size map book 4 Feb 2011
Format:Spiral-bound|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a decent sized scale map. I am sending it to Australia for friends to look at, who are visiting the UK next year. It is an easy to read large scale map. Ideal for someone who hasn't driven on UK roads for years.Good value for what you get too, as it has a separate section showing all the major town and city maps in a larger scale and better detail of the roads.Good for a car journey. Not so good if you want to carry it around, as it is very big. Generally though, I'm very pleased with my purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear and Accurate 31 Aug 2010
Format:Spiral-bound|Amazon Verified Purchase
We went into WHS to examine the options to replaced our well worn 2004 road atlas. We just could not make up our minds. We then spotted this on Amazon (at a very good price) pressed one button and it was on our doorstep the next morning.
The maps are clear and up-to-date and, with the spiral binding, easy to access.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disapointing maps of Scotland 12 Feb 2011
By RML
Format:Spiral-bound
Whilst this atlas is in the main good, I was incensed that the maps of Scotland north of the central belt were on a smaller scale than the remainder of the UK. I specifically bought the map for a forthcoming holiday to Perthshire only to find that the scale changed for this part of the UK. There is just as much requirement for detail for Scotland as is there is for the rest of the UK. For this reason I returned the Atlas and will be looking for something which treats the entire UK equitably.

5.0 out of 5 stars Road Atlas 26 May 2013
Format:Spiral-bound|Amazon Verified Purchase
Very good clear Atlas and we do like the scale, 3 inches to the mile, as it show up all the lanes and small roads, also easy to find tourist attractions, which are clearly marked.

2.0 out of 5 stars Need pre-requisites 19 Oct 2012
By amazong
Format:Spiral-bound
I bought this book in the hope of seeing some of Britain's most impressive land marks.
Unfortunately Collins didn't inform me before buying the book, or indeed in the book, that I'd need to know how to drive.
The M1 is a bit far to travel for me on my feet.
The service stations guide provide good places for me to relax and kick back within walking distance.

If I'm nit picking, the yellow on the front cover is a bit garish, I think a nice dark white would have sufficed.

An excellent buy. The ones we saw in the shops cost 3 times as much, more for a spiral bound one like this. It was well packed and arrived very quickly.
