Loved it... 17 April 2010
Format:Paperback
I can't help thinking some other reviewers on here are missing the point. This book provides an excellent reference for the World Cup in SA providing information and pictures of the various stadia, the run up and then the countries and their stars. This is for anyone who wants a quick reference to every country, coach, the main star players as well as one or two to watch out for. Certainly enough to talk about down the pub.
True, satistics-wise it maybe a little thin on the ground but who really wants to bore their friends with the number of headed goals a team has scored in their WC history? For a tenner or so (half that price on Amazon) you can't go far wrong. There are also profiles of some of the best players at the end of the book along with a potted (if brief) history of the tournament to date. Recommended.

I agree with the previous reviewer who said that others were missing the point. This book isn't a football history book or a World Cup stat's book. It's a simple and cheap layman's companion to the 2010 World Cup, giving out the basic information everyone generally wants to have to hand as they watch the games and record results. No one wants to have their faces stuck in a book rather than watching the games. It's basic, but it's more than adequate as a casual reference and a good light read in between games. If you're looking for an indepth and expanded reference to this and world cups past, buy one. This book isn't that and it has no ambitions to be.

Very comprehensive book/programme to accompany the World Cup. Informative, interesting with all the facts and figures from the qualifying group matches and all the previous World Cup finals. A must for any quiz fanatic. No prizes for who tops the penalty shoot out league (Germany) and who is bottom (England).

Very interesting
I really enjoyed reading this book. However, I think that there are a lot of World Cup books out there which I would enjoy equally as much. Read more

wc book
This year it was an official book and not a programme.
Not really worth a review as it's now out of date but interestingly a lot of the players profiled never performed! Read more

Bought as a Birthday present for my Brother-in-Law, whose is football mad, and he was delighted with it.

As expected
It is as expected. Looks good, nice and glossy. Would be better if it included the world rankings.

Very disappointed. Contains next to no information at all
I have around 7 different World Cup guides for the tournament in South Africa and I must this is the most disappointing one (and the most expensive one) by far. Read more

very bland
Had high expectations - however this is patchy at times with potted histories and though it attempts to cover statistics and individual countries - it just highlights one player... Read more

A good overview but lacking in detail
As a World Cup nut I bought this book as soon as it was released. Along with a look at the host nation and its stadiums, this book also contains info on how the teams qualified and... Read more
