This is the first Speedway GP compilation I have purchased since the 2006 edition. Speedway fans will no doubt notice that these two years correspond with Jason Crump's most recent series victories and that I am from Australia. Parochialism is not as much to blame for this as you might think. The 2006 box set was available commercially in stores here but that was the last time this annual compilation was so readily available in this country. The predominant seller Smoke and Rubber will not sell their products via Amazon to this country and I sent several e-mails to them, during which timed I was promised this issue would be rectified. This never happened and I followed up with further correspondence which in some cases these was not even replied too. Eventually I was directed to an e-bay page where I could order from. Unfortunately the quoted postage costs using this method were more than the cost of the product itself so I decided against that course of action. I even tried ordering it via the Speedway GP website but that only directed me straight back to Amazon UK.
This all seems a bit odd given that Australia has riders who are not only championship contenders but in the case of Jason Crump a multiple World Champ. Leigh Adams and Chris Holder to name but two have also put there names in the record books as recent winners. I dare say Australia would be a good market for this product.
In the end I was able to order it via another extremely helpful seller called A Bargain Book who was also situated in the UK but this seems to have been a one off. This seller was most helpful in that they normally do not sell items to Australian customers but when contacted were happy to oblige. The item arrived in excellent time and the only thing that marks them down is that two of the discs were rattling around loose inside the boxes and badly marked as a result. Happily most of the marks cleaned off and they have played fine. I have other friends here in Australia who are Speedway fans who would love to have this in their collection if the opportunity arises.
Getting my hands on a copy of this has been a real effort, but worth it in the end. The footage is excellent and the actual racing in some cases is breathtaking. You not only get the GP Series but the World Cup as well. The packaging is very good and a big improvement on the shoddy 2006 effort where the discs were barely held in place by the fragile slimline cases that soon broke anyway. In fact I have had to store my 2006 discs in separate boxes as it was that bad. No such concerns this time I am happy to say.
In the end I am reviewing the product not the seller so I will give it 5 out of 5 stars. It is a must for all Speedway bike fans.
