Product Description

Product Description

This easy-to-use book features 200 colourful ripple-stitch patterns to knit and crochet using a range of techniques, from traditional Shetland lace stitches to modern textured patterns. This book helps to create beautiful fabrics with variegated zigzags of colour and pretty ridged effects, perfect for afghans, throws, baby blankets, scarves, evening wraps and travel rugs. The main part of the book is a stitch directory containing 200 patterns, each featuring a detailed photograph, clear instructions, suggested colour variations and charts where needed. It includes guidance on planning your project, choosing yarns, making swatches, combining stitches and colours, and finishing off with borders and edgings.

Jan Eaton's crochet blocks taught me to crochet. Now this book is teaching me to knit lace. The instructions are clear and easy to follow - and, so far, error-free. However, it's not 200 patterns, since more than half are colour variations; on top of that some patterns are very similar - how many ripple stitch patterns do exist anyway? The book includes directions for a scarf, a shawl, pillows and an afghan, although is more about providing ideas than instructions. Even though this book is about stitches, not projects, some directions on the approximate amount of yarn required for the different patterns would have been very much welcome. All that being said, I do enjoy just flipping pages and wondering what to try next, just like with the crochet blocks! A sound addition to my craftsbook collection.

I borrowed this book from the library and renewed it several times before receiving a (requested) copy for my birthday. I've made at least half a dozen scarves and blankets since, trying different patterns. I don't knit but found plenty of crochet designs to stimulate my hook, and like seeing the alternative colour suggestions. Interesting for both beginners and experienced yarnaholics.

A fabulous book. Colourful, inspiring patterns which can be knitted or crocheted. So useful. Instructions mainly written but the close up photos make the processes very clear. The patterns are relatively simple but, as an experienced knitter, the combinations engaged my interests and the crochet ideas revived my enthusiasm for this craft. Highly recommended.
