5.0 out of 5 stars Best Album Ever !!!!, 27 Sep 2003
By
PM SHORT "Square Eyes" (London, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: 200 Km/H in the Wrong Lane [CD + DVD] (Audio CD)
Its a shame this album didn't have such a huge impact as the single 'All The Things She Said' had, it may only have 8 proper album tracks, but each one is just pure quality! If you just take away the whole 'lesbian marketing ploy' thing, there really are some great songs, with varying styles of music!

1. Not Gonna Get Us - ok ok, I realise some people may find this song annoying, well actually I don't realise why, 'cos I lurve this song! Really, I just cannot get enough of it, its definately my favourite album track, and the video for it is just superb! The heavy drums and the high pitch vocals make this song such a standout track, I mean you can't compare it to any other song ever released, its a unique !! :) -- 10/10

2. All The Things She Said - it spent 4 weeks at no.1 and I wouldn't put it all down to the 'controversial' (*rolls eyes) video, its a great song, admittingly some of the good lyrics were lost in the translation from russian to english, but this track is a one of a kind, like all of tatu's tracks, they appeared from no-where and this song just blasted straight onto the number one spot! (much to 'Richard & Judy's' dismay) -- 10/10

3. Show Me Love - they recently filmed the video for this in London, but it turns out there probably won't be anymore singles from tatu released in the uk (*hmph) . This song has the strangest lyrics (probably due to the whole translation thing) , at the beginning Julia & Lena have a phone conversation in Russian and I only recently found out what it was about! (trust me, you don't wanna know, it makes no sense!) This song has a wicked chorus, its so incredibly catchy, the hooks are all there!! -- 10/10

4. 30 Minutes - the only ballad on the song, its very cool, kinda spooky, but I just love the piano bits and their vocals are wicked on this! I've seen the video for this that they released in Russia, its really strange! (Julia blows up a merry-go-round - as you do)

5. How Soon Is Now? - a cover of the 1980s hit by The Smiths, I actually prefer this version to the original, I know I know, the credit is all with Neil Morrisey seeing as he did write the song, but I love the girls vocals on this, and I do think the song should have been sung by a woman anyway! This song has been tatu's 3rd single around Europe & America, the video is just bits and peices of their gigs and stuff! -- 10/10

6. Clowns (Can You See Me Now?) - I love the haunting melody on this, this track is a fast paced euro-dance-ee song, once again, the lyrics make no sense to me, but its still a wicked song to dance to! -- 10/10

7. Malchik Gay - the song is sung in english, malchik means boy in russian, the song wouldn't be the same if they sung 'gay boy' it just wouldn't go! I've heard the original 'Malchik-Geif' russian version, its really techno-ish and a lot better than this guitar based one, but I still love this version to! The song is basically about them loving this boy but he doesn't feel the same about them! -- 10/10

8. Stars - this song is wicked, I didn't like it at first, but now i've come to appreciate it! Lena sings beautifully and Julia raps .. erm .. differently, I mean, Eminem should hardly be watching his back, but still, the russian rapping is cool, and the instrument thing they play in it really adds something to the song!

9. Ya Soshla S Uma (Have I Lost My Mind?) - russian version of 'All The Things She Said' - the girls seem so much more comfortable singing in their native language, and the song is very different .. -- 10/10

10. Nas Na Dagonyat (Not Gonna Get Us) - russian version of 'Not Gonna Get Us' the two don't vary that much, but I orefer the russian version, as I do with all of tatu's songs! -- 10/10

11. Show Me Love (Extended Mix)
12. 30 Minutes (Remix)
13. Malchik Gay (Remix - UK Bonus Track)

All the remixes rock!! :)

This album is the best album i've ever bought, if you really did love 'All The Things She Said' and 'Not Gonna Get Us' you should definately own this album, really, you should!!

(P.S - check out the russian version of this album, it has some extra songs they never put on the english version!!)

5.0 out of 5 stars ITS ALL THE THINGS SHE SAID AND MORE!!!!!!, 10 Nov 2003

L. Norris (southern England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: 200 Km/H in the Wrong Lane [CD + DVD] (Audio CD)
I was ever so slighty sceptical when i got this album, i was just expecting the two great singles All the things she said, and Not gonna get us, and then a load of filler to pack out the album. Much to my delight i was wrong, what it is, is a well produced, well made album that has made the transition from russian to english very very well. highlights have to be obviosly the two singles, including the original russian versions, and the cover of the smiths song, How soon is now. all very good indeed.

One of the things i was most surprised at was the use of beats that wouldn't sound out of place on a Prodigy album (slap me down if you will for saying that, but listen to it before you make an attack on me).

All in all i think that, if more focus was put on the album and not the clever marketing ploy put with the girls, i think they would have made just as much an impact on the world of music.

Last of all i would like to say this, many people won't agree with it, but i believe T.A.T.U. are the most punk group of the last year. i am using the word punk in meaning the punk ideal not the music style.

I most definitly recommend you buy this.

4.0 out of 5 stars tatu surprise!, 20 Aug 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: 200 Km/H in the Wrong Lane [CD + DVD] (Audio CD)
I don't know what posessed me to buy this but it has been a real pleasant surprise. It could be described as cheesie europop, but as I bought Aquas album Aquarium I suppose it is right up my street.
It sound like a mix between Ace of Base and Aha on helium. Although the 2 songs that have been released so far I thought were really good, the rest of the C.D. is better. I particularly like Malchick Gay, once I realised it was not a rip off of a cheeky girls song. The rest of the songs are as much of a pleasant surprise as Turn Back Time was on Aquarium. This c.d. has rarely been out of the changer in my car since I got it.Its definitley worth a pop(euro cheesie that is!).
