Book Description

According to the Food Standards Agency, Indian food is the UK's favourite cuisine. In the latest keynote survey, retail sales accounted for 42% of total sales of ethnic foods and was valued at GBP250 million. It also found that the Indian food industry in the UK is worth GBP3.2 billion, accounting for two-thirds of all eating out, with about 2.5 million customers served every week. The latest keynote survey reported that curry fans spent GBP480 per minute in supermarkets and a leading supermarket sells 1.1 million packets of chicken tikka masala each year. Sunil Vijayakar's Fresh Indian, published by Hamlyn, has sold over 50,000 copies worldwide.

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll Never Run Out of Curries! 2 Oct 2009
Format:Paperback
Two hundred tasty curry recipes in a handy compact book. Great for both beginners and more experienced cooks. I love the wipe clean cover because I am a messy cook! It also includes an excellent vegetarian section. All the recipes I have tried so far have been delicious. Favourites in this house are the Creamy Tandoori Chicken Kebabs and the Chicken & Baby Spinach Curry.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quick and Easy 4 Feb 2009
Format:Paperback
I very simple to follow cookery book. Brilliant explanations, the curries always turn out how they look in the book.
The only thing I would say is that make sure you read the preperation details first as I have been caught out by some ingrediants needing to be marinated for quite a few hours. All in all very good.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great little book, with lots of curries! 12 Jan 2010
By Shahin
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
arrived today, was really pleased, contains starters, chicken, pork, lamb, seafood, vegetarian curries. cant believe they managed to squeeze 200 recipe ideas in such a small size book. the recipes are really good, as an indian cook myself i like to search for new recipe ideas and this book is a great start. it contains the basics of curry style ingredients and gives the best of both thai and indian curries. it would have been better if all the recipes were for 'curries' as it contains starters, and also side - 'salad' type recipes which i think is cheating to say all are curries, but on whole a good book, highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent all rounder 7 Oct 2009
Format:Paperback
I am not a huge curry lover but my other half is so I was pleased to get my hands on this book, hoping to find something that I could handle as a beginner. I am very pleased with it, the content is excellent. The photographs are really large and everything looks very appetising. The recipes are not difficult at all and are easy to understand, using ingredients that you could pick up in a supermarket. I was especially keen to see how to make starters and side dishes like naan bread for example, things which I would normally buy ready made in a packet. Overall, this is a great book and I plan to look into the rest of the Hamlyn Colour series too.

This is a great little book. The recipes are easy and clearly explained. The ingredients needed are usually the ones that are part of your cupboard. I certainly recommend it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Friday night curry... without the takeaway 16 Dec 2012
By Amazon Customer #1 HALL OF FAME TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Another worthy offering from the Hamlyn 200-recipe cookbook range, this time addressing curry. As well as a range of recipes using poultry, beef, pork, fish and seafood, the book also includes an introduction to the various spices that you will use as well as a recipe to make your own curry powder and Thai green or red paste.

Each recipe occupies a double-page spread; a colour photograph of the finished recipe on one side and the method on the other. The recipes are generally very easy to make (some are more time consuming than others) but are always well laid out.

The book also includes a decent quantity of vegetarian main and side dishes (the creamy spiced mushrooms as a starter followed by Bengali egg & potato curry particularly appealed). There is even a recipe that includes pumpkin should you have any leftover!

This range of recipe books is amongst the most appealing I have come across; they are all small enough to pop into a bag or pocket to accompany you on the trip to buy ingredients for a recipe, whilst being of sufficient size to make recipe preparation a breeze. If you are looking for an inspirational cookbook or just a stocking filler, the Hamlyn range is more than likely to have something that will appeal and this selection of Curry themed recipes is no exception.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good recipes, but could be less parochial 13 Dec 2012
Format:Paperback|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
The more traditional Asian style recipes, I have enjoyed, but much of the British influence has been lost. There is a bizarre nod to the English with an absurd rack of lamb dish. Why disguise such a fine piece of meat like that, with so much spice?

Another thing that disappointed me a little was the repeated use of white rice in the pictures. Obviously you can substitute other rice easily enough, but for aspiration I would have preferred to have seen less processed food.

This book may be missing a recipe or two that you hoped to find, but you are sure to find things that you will like. For such a low price, it represents good value for money.
