Darker My Love have a delicate late-night, stoner quality to their album '2'. It nestles happily in the reverb heavy mix of pysch. and rock. Album opener 'Northern Soul' comes on like good-era BRMC with an injection of Jim Morrison.

'Two Ways Out' is Supergrass circa 'I Should Coco' drowning in loveable and lethargic fuzz. 'White Composition' is not far from MGMT's summertime swoon. The strings on 'All The Hurry & Wait' are the pyschedelic twist Noel Gallagher has been searching for on a track that starts like a lost Aliens number.

Like fellow drug lovers The Warlocks on an 'up' day, '2' sounds large scale. It is squarely rock with a thick coat of pysch, rather than the other way round. It veers towards mogadon territory in places but belies its pop-rock heart.

Album highlight 'Talking Words' draws the album towards its close. It's a foggy trawl through reverbia, taking in the best that BRMC could ever muster and letting it loose in a playground full of West coast hippies. If that's not appealing imagery then this one's not for you.

Solid 2nd outing and 60's psych lives on 21 Aug 2009

Heard about this band a few months ago while listening to the young sinclairs and the asteroid #4. They got lost in amongst all the other rock/psych bands i was researching and i never got round to listening to them again.
A few weeks back i saw a positive review of "2" in Q magazine and i immediatly went in search of info about this band and made an effort to get hold of a copy.

Although the first 3-4 songs didnt meet my initial high expectations (in my opinion songs like two ways out and pale sun sound more like mid-late 90's dandy warhols pretenders - not a good thing), the album really hits its stride with "white composition". Its 2.5 mins of blissed out 60's psych that floats along on a bouncy jangly bass line and meanders along quite happily flirting with lates 60's Beatles, particularly "lucy in the sky".
From here on in the album soars onwards and upwards, each song leading beautifuly into the next one.

A very solid album and i feel if this band were to push the envelope further, there 3rd could be something quite special.

I have seen these guys with The Fall and I fell in love, they are heading out on tour with White lies in a few weeks and I really wish I could get to one of the shows. A fantastic band and a fantastic album to go with it. Late night rock is about right.
