I normally don't have much luck with this sort of product but thought for £12 it was worth a try. My notebook had died but I thought the drive with unbacked up data (should be more disciplined) might be OK. When the enclosure arrived I took the drive out of the notebook and it's old sleeve, popped it into the enclosure and plugged in the power and USB connection - worked first time. Recognised immediately by Windows XP The whole job took less than 5mins, it seems ages since something worked so effortlessly. Must back up the data now! Excellent product, also kudos to CDL Micro for first class buying experience.

Great device 11 Jun 2008
I bought this needing to connect a SATA drive to my laptop and only having old ATA caddys. This is great and is well worth the money - highly recommended.

Fantastic little box 24 April 2008
Had a laptop with a graphics card that had died on me. Thought that I would need to get some professional help removing the data from the hard drive as I hadn't backed up all my files.

Routing through Amamzon came across this 2.5" laptop hard drive case and thought what a brilliant idea. And at £10.49 if it didn't work I hadn't lost anything really.

When it arrived I was pleasantly surprised about how small it was and stylish (shiny black with chrome panel). It came with its own case as well. The manual had some bad english and was slightly confusing but soon sorted out what we needed to do.

Only negative is you need two usb ports one to power the drive the other to transmit and receive data for a USB connection. Even with the eSATA connection you still need to connect the usb to power the hard drive up. Apart from that I haven't looked back and would recommend this product to anyone.

I have Vista (uggh) on new laptop and I don't think I needed to install anything.
Great little thing.

Does not work reliably on Windows 7
I wasted much time when suddenly the hard drive I'd put into this caddy suddenly stopped working - or so I thought. Turns out this caddy does not mix too happily with Windows 7. Read more

I cannot review this item other than to say it arrived on time. It was intended as a birthday present for one of my sons.

OK - mine was SATA only
Delivered quickly, nicely built, works well. Two issues of note firstly power supply uses 2 USBs (or a suitable 5v PSU if you have one); secondly mine was SATA only NOT USB/SATA. Read more

HDD Enclosure
The enclosure is ok if a little tight to fit the drive. The instructions are poor as there is no selection switch (USB or SATA) as stated in the instructions. Read more
