Product Description

Product Description

1989 is a touchstone. On Taylor's fourth album, her songwriting and sonic evolution impresses more than ever before. Heavily keyboard and beat driven, the pop sensibilities that have always been the hallmark of Taylor’s music now move front and centre on 1989. The standard version comes packed with a jewel case , a pack of photos and a outer cardboard case (called an O Card).

I just got this album for Christmas after having heard so much about it, and now I understand why there was such a buzz surrounding it! I was never a big fan of Taylor Swift before getting this album (I had listened to some songs from previous albums) but now I am a huge fan , so much so that I'm going to buy her other ones. This album shows that Taylor Swift is not a one-trick pony and can pull off a smooth transition (from country to pop music), which is very hard for any artist to do.

Immediately when I started listening to 'Welcome to New York' I was in for something special as I instantly felt I was going to hear an entire album bursting with magic. 1989 is an album that I never lost interest in from the moment it started to the moment it finished, and I very rarely say that about any albums that I've listened to. A strong highlight for this album, I would say, is the three bonus tracks at the end (Wonderland, You Are In Love, New Romantics), which bring a wonderful close to 1989, so buying the deluxe edition is really worth it!

Apart from the bonus tracks, the other songs on this album which really stood out to me were Blank Space, All You Had To Do Was Stay, Wildest Dreams, How You Get The Girl, This Love, Clean.

Overall, an absolutely brilliant album! I know I'm gonna have it on repeat for a long while!

I LOVE this album.

I have always been aware of Taylor Swift and have loved many of her singles but for some reason I never gave her albums a chance until last year when I found all her albums on sale and picked them up, I've never been a big lover of country music, it just never appealed to me but Taylor's music is different as she sings of relatable things that appeal and inspire young girls and ladies, which has made me see the country music genre in a different light.
Anyway after really loving her previous albums I couldn't resist buying this when it came out.

Now I will say on the first listen through it can be a shock to the system hearing Taylor blurt out poppy anthems like "Shake it Off" and "Welcome to New York" but once you get into the feel and start realising it is still Taylor on the other end of your speakers this album really does stick to your brain .
I had this on repeat for days when I first got it,

I can understand how some people/fans may not like the pop approach she has taken for this record but this to me just proves that this young lady knows what she want's to sing and write about and knows how to reinvent herself which I find refreshing and I think she deserves recognition here as an artist for taking such a big step in writing a pop album instead of her previous 3 albums which were country and gave her extreme success and which are her roots. She hasn't ditched country completely and I'm sure in her next album she will find a way to mix the two together and create an amazing album again.

Taylor Swift- country star, superstar, now pop star. No matter what, she always delivers a solid album and this just show cases everything she has learnt from 8 years of her career. Do not judge this one on Shake It Off, not only is that song by far the weakest on the album, but does not tie in with the sound of the album.
I will do a track-by-track review:
Welcome to New York- Polished, 80's pop is the best way to describe this one.
Blank Space- a funny number that makes fun of the way she is portrayed in the media. Catchy and sugary.
Style- Slick, throwback and indulgent (in a good way) are some words that come to mind when you hear this. To me, reminiscent of the late 70s/ early 80s.
Out of the Woods- This track tells a story through both the lyrics and the music, portraying a frantic, anxiety-driven relationship.
All You Had To Do Was Stay- If there is any song that would make you want to dance and cry at the same time, it would be this.
Shake It Off- I'm going to assume you know this one.
I Wish You Would- Catchy in an un-obvious way. Synth-guitar driven pop at it's finest. This song shows you do not need to compromise good lyrics to make pop music.
Bad Blood- Not a favourite. The most angry on the album, while the lyrics in the chorus lack, the lyrics in the verses are better.
Wildest Dreams- One of the most beautiful songs I have heard in my life.Taylor sings this with a Stevie Nicks type drawl. Brings to mind a 70s California. Lyrics are beautiful, vocals are euphoric and the music is tragically gorgeous.
How You Get the Girl- A fun song, pop at it's best. Gives me a 70s disco feel during the pre-chorus.
This Love- Soulful, beautiful, melancholic. Surprisingly the only song on the album written entirely by Swift.

I loved Taylor's early albums, but kind of stopped listening at the last one.
Then 1989 came along.
I put off buying it, because I like to know what I'm buying before spending money on it, and she removed it from Spotify and other free listening sites. However, at the advice of my friends I bit the bullet and downloaded it. And boy was I not disappointed.
I feel that this album has a much more positive feel to it than previous albums, which is why it's going to be my soundtrack for the next few weeks. It really reflects Taylor Swift's new and improved attitude towards life and love. And the songs are catchy as hell.
I feel like Blank Space is more representative of the style than Shake It Off. Personal favourites are Style, All You Had To Do Was Stay, Out of the Woods and Bad Blood.
A really great album, 10/10 would recommend to a friend.
