The original CliffsNotes study guides offer expert commentary on major themes, plots, characters, literary devices, and historical background. The latest generation of titles in this series also features glossaries and visual elements that complement the classic, familiar format. CliffsNotes on 1984 introduces you to the modern world as imagined by George Orwell, a place where humans have no control over their own lives, where nearly every positive feeling is squelched, and where people live in misery, fear, and repression. Orwell′s vision of the future may be grim, but your understanding of his novel can be bright thanks to detailed summaries and commentaries for every chapter. Other features that help you study include Character analyses of major players A character map that graphically illustrates the relationships among the characters Critical essays A review section that tests your knowledge A Resource Center full of books, articles, films, and Internet sites Classic literature or modern modern–day treasure — you′ll understand it all with expert information and insight from CliffsNotes study guides.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cliff notes that are great 10 April 2013

the cliff notes were a pleasure to have. Made the whole reading the book much easier (as you sometime don't catch everything). Some of the things in it I don't quite agree with, but if you don't want to read the book these are very good and you're teacher will think you read it.

I thought this was the novel version of 1984 - but it's not. It's a summary of each chapter and a list of characters - very useful if you are going to be sitting a literature exam - (If that's what you want it for, it looks fine), but if you wanted, as I did, to read the novel, you'll be disappointed.
