First heard Ike Yard back in '80's on Peel show...the track 'Half a God'is a classic...what is it?...primordial acid house...'No Wave'strange trance...no, apparently "It's music which speaks of the intense alienation of cold water flats in the Lower East Side, seductive in its frosty hauteur but also plying hefty rhythmic ebb"...so there you go...

HALF A GOD, IS ONE OF THE BEST TRANCE,DUB,DANCE, RECORDS FACTORY HAVE EVER RELEASED.I REMEMBER JOHN PEEL PLAYING IT IN 86 OR SOMETHING. IT TOOK ME UNTIL 95 OR 96 TO TRACK IT DOWN WHEN I EVENTUALLY BOUGHT THE ORIGINAL LP(A FACT,) FROM SIMON SCOTT FROM BRIDEWELL TAXIS,WHEN HE RAN A SMALL RECORD STALL IN THE BACK OF SUGAR LUMP IN THE CORN EXCHANGE IN LEEDS,BUY BUY BUY.NOTHING ELSE WILL DO.FACTORY TRANCE,PETER STORMS,END OF STORY.....

Ike Yard imitate the cold, impersonal post-punk sound of groups like Joy Division and Magazine. I like their approach; if only they had some songs worth recording. Band members Stuart Argabright and Michael Diekmann provide the self-praising liner notes for this tedious compilation. How did these characters end up on a superlative label like Factory?
