As a 20 year old at the time I was one of just millions around the country who wanted the 'underdogs' Sunderland to win against the mighty Leeds but realistically you thought that the senior; Division one side would eventually blow away the plucky 2nd Division outfit but no! from the outset Sunderland took the game to Leeds, it was a time when fooballers were real men and there was tough tackling but nothing dirty, there was no feighing injury, no disputing referee's decisions, just end to end great football for 90 minutes and a fairy tale ending, I have watched this game on numerous occasions and still get the same pleasure as I did in 1973.

goals arnt everything 29 April 2004
Format:DVD
Superb step back in history and rather spooky,it doesnt look like arecording. The clarity and sound atmosphere is electric, i can even hearsome one ringing a bell!.A passionate interview with uncle Bob Stokoe onthe pitch, God rest his soul and you can hear every word the roker fansare roaring behind him.Can Sunderland do it,this is under dog versus thecyber tooth tiger. There is a lovely glance in the tunnel as the teamscome out and the royal introductions, with the national anthem booming, this is great anticipation ....who needs highlights and come to thatgoals, theres drama a plenty before even a kick is given. To thematch..70s syle kamikazi tackles ,characters locking horns , teams justdidnt shuffle their pack ..footy fans knew all the names . Just look atthe anguish and the anxiety on the bench...the ones who didnt make the thefray..and that goal, thats a bonus.the..Porterfieldcelebrations...Sunderland hanging on but still attacking ...the tacticsand Monty punching out and not catching for fear of the lurking predetorsof Leeds. The full time whistle and uncle Bob beaming and hugging thekeeper Montgomery the hero. This dvd has great commentry by Brian Moore andtheres lots of heroes that arnt hear any more ,lets rejoice theircontributions...Billy Bremmner.Bob Stokoe, Don revie, Brian Moore. To thefinal dvd chapter and the thrilling lap of honour, see the 70s styles inthe crowd the advertising boards ,mullet cuts and taches, this dvd willgive you every emmotion and a glance to the past.As a neutral i loveit..being a sheffield utd fan im glad the red and whites did it. the restof the 70s dvd collection should be equally engrossing and i aim to findout!
