Format: Hardcover
It is one hundred years since this venerable automatic pistol came into service with the US military, hence the model number M1911. The classic pistol design of John Moses Browning for manufacture by Colt. This is a superb book and the authors knowledge of the gun and its development really shines through. Very good balance of history and technical detail. The M1911 is no longer a general issue sidearm to the US forces but certain models remain in use in various elite units. This is covered in great detail as is the enduring appeal of the gun for shooting competitions. There are also chapters dedicated to the work of the custom gunsmiths who continue to push the boundaries of the development of this classic design. There have been many books written about the M1911 and this is one of the better ones. A real treat for anyone who is interested in the design and development of firearms.
