Product Description

This popular guide focuses on common misconceptions in the application of the Wiring Regulations. It explains in clear language those parts of the Regs that most need simplifying, outlining the correct procedures to follow and those to avoid. Emphasis has been placed on areas where confusion and misinterpretation is common, such as earthing and bonding, circuit design and protection, and in particular the increased use of RCDs.

It is an affordable reference for all electrical contractors and other workers involved in electrical installations. It will enable safe and efficient compliance and help answer queries quickly to ensure work complies with the latest version of the Wiring Regulations.

With the coverage carefully matched to the syllabus of the City & Guilds Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installations (2382-10 and 2382-20) and containing sample exam questions and answers, it is also an ideal revision guide.

Brian Scaddan, I Eng, MIET, is a consultant for and an Honorary Member of City & Guilds. He has over 35 years' experience in Further Education and training. He is Director of Brian Scaddan Associates Ltd, an approved City and Guilds and NICEIC training centre offering courses on all aspects of Electrical Installation Contracting including the C&G 2382 series. He is also a leading author of books on electrical installation.

* Fully up-to-date with the 17th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations and the C&G 2382 syllabus
* Simplifies the advice found in the Regs, explaining what they mean in actual working practice
* Expert advice from an engineering training consultant, supported with colour diagrams, examples and key data

The trouble with a lot of Brian's work is that it is repeated in many of his titles, this book is no exception.
A reasonable book, but like many of Brian's titles has some errors , some tutors dislike Brian's work for this reason.
A lot of the text can be found in the Electrical installation title.
The title by Ray Tricker is better suited for someone who wants to fully understand the new amended regulations.
When students purchase text books they are looking for new information, so when they buy, say 5 of these new pocket books they are not going to be pleased that the same written text is in most of them.
Students also buy books to try and work through different examples but in these books the worked examples are the same.
Some of the graphics are good but equally some are a bit amateurish.
On the plus side the book is not to expensively priced.
Ok as a one off but not if you are purchasing other titles by the same author.

Too many errors 19 Oct 2008
By Spark1
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Whilst generally a reasonable book, there are a considerable number of errors. These include referencing incorrect tables and regulation numbers, and a number of simple typographical errors, e.g. stating that the minimum diameter for the main protective bonding conductor should be 60mm sq, rather than 6. Whilst the more experienced will instantly spot these errors, they could lead to confusion to the novice, who, after all, the book is aimed at. One particular area of concern is in the Inspection and Testing section where, in the process of determining R1+R2, the reader is advised to temporarily link together the line conductor and the CPC. At no point is any emphasis placed on the fact the circuit must be isolated from the supply before this procedure is attempted!

Could do better 23 Nov 2011
Format:Paperback
Totally agree with several of the other comments and reviews - too much duplication and far too many errors. I have a degree in mechanical engineering and plenty of practical DIY experience in domestic wiring. I bought this to help me design a kitchen installation to current regs (it will be inspected and tested by pro's before commissioning before anyone complains :)). It didn't tell me anything I didn't already know, and actually made me think some of the jobs I'd done in the past could have been wrong. I was starting to doubt my ability - turns out it's a poorly proof read book that duplicates a lot from Mr Scaddan's other titles.
